SPA Labor Day XXXX, Monday, 9/1/25 Finale
« on: September 01, 2025, 09:52:35 AM »
The final day SPA is here!  We're moving on, but this first.  Glad the Horseplop people who went reported a nice time.  Racing weather was pretty nice this meet, some great match-ups and surprises at times, and recent racing home to Sovereignty the absolute star of this meet.  Great to hear not a whole bunch of horses breaking down i.e. tremendous number of vet scratches.  They were not playing games!

The SPA weather should be FAST and FIRM today, with a mild, overcast forecast and temp in the mid 70's.  I'll hit the 2 stakes races later in that SPA card.  A stakes at Finger Lakes, Monmouth and two at Del Mar. In Harness...checkin g out the small fields at MST too.

All tracks mentioned herein should be FAST & FIRM too.

I'm following nothing, committed to nothing, a fresh start.  tmbz1

Spent an hour or so last night looking at Finger Lakes race 8 at 423pm the Artic Queen.  The #2 is an absolute beast, unfortunately no lasix.  Going with the Cox horse, so 6 / 2 3 4 5 10 / ALL.  More to report soon!

Good Luck Everyone and Have a Chilled and Successful Labor Day, You Deserve It!   ;D

I am glad the SPA meet is ending. I've burned alot of $ there especially the last 2 weeks. All these maiden races are a killer.

Calhoun Touts in this space recent are 1 for 8 (or 9) but the winner paying $19.40 puts me about even.

I'm at Chantilly today, my favorite track in the world, an hour north of Paris.  Ancient chateaus and ruins in view from the grandstand

Keeneland and Goodwood are just as nice but Waay more crowded.

My GET Filthy Rich Play today is Otto Magic in race 1 at Del Mar.

Thanks and good luck to all today.

Someone at PAce Adv posted several photos of the track and town.  It's worth a couple minutes.

They threw this horse #6 in 5f workouts pretty quick, then dropped him back to 4f and developed the gelding's speed.  Not a pedigree to write home about, hopefully get a better price.  Looks like the trainer's jockey's of choice went to the 1, and 8.

1 colt in the race, and 8 geldings, says a lot for a Maiden Special Weight!

I'll 2wp and 1 ky box ex with all, tri and sup him with the 1 & 8...$26.60, come home soon!   ngc3

We better get 10-1 odds  ngc3  Thanks Calhoun!   ;D

Trying the pick5 at the SPA with a little more of a streamlined ticket. These $200++ tickets killed me the last few days, so changing the strategy

1,4,5/2,3,5/11/3,4,5,7,10,11/2,5,6,8
$108 bucks

These maiden races are becoming a problem.  Sorry JT

6 out of the 11 today are maiden, but at least we isolated something to confront.

I actually played the Del Mar 1st double, that ADW is just too hard to copy and paste her tics, but here is one and the Finger Lakes Stakes:

Del Mar                26.60
   Race 1    2.00    WP    6    NaN.00
   Race 1    1.00    EX    BX+6 / 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9    16.00
   Race 1    0.50    TRI    BX+1+6+8    3.00
   Race 1    0.10    SPR    1+6+8 / 1+6+8 / 1+6+8 / 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9    3.60
  Finger Lakes                136.40
   Race 8    20.00    WP    6    NaN.00
   Race 8    1.00    EX    BX+6 / 1+2+4+5+6+10    10.00
   Race 8    2.00    EX    BX+6 / 2+4+5+10    16.00

   Race 8    0.50    TRI    6 / 2+4+5+10 / 2+4+5+10    6.00
   Race 8    0.50    TRI    2+4+5+10 / 6 / 2+4+5+10    6.00
   Race 8    0.20    SPR    6 / 2+4+5+10 / 2+4+5+10 / 2+4+5+10    4.80
   Race 8    0.20    SPR    2+4+5+10 / 6 / 2+4+5+10 / 2+4+5+10    4.80

Well that didn't work either.. of course the horse that had to be hauled away in the equine ambulance his last start wins race 2.

We'll have to remember that.

As sinister as it sounds I've also seen all kind of games and playbooks thrown at this meet to get prices upon horses, so I wouldn't throw it past them, to plan and execute a fake ambulance facade.  Horse was 2nd and 3rd prior.  Horse stumbled out of the gate went head forward and tossed jock, ran around looking ok.

Carmouche and Pletcher are like 100% or close to it at this meet.

I cannot wait for Aqueduct to open on 11Sep

all of these large competitive fields on the turf, with 3 Chads and 3 Clements in each race are horrible for me

how am I supposed to figure out a winner when Chad and Miguel dont even know which one of their own will be good?

Aqueduct closes forever early in July 2026 and with Belmont installing a synthetic surface,..with NO dirt racing from Dec-March,  rendering dirt races at NYRA basically obsolete , I must find a new circuit to follow --and for sure as hell wont be Santa Anita

Im gonna try the Finger.. I think the 1 is a vulnerable favorite in race 1 moving to a route... But the way I'm running now the 1 will win like Secretariat at the Belmont  ngc3

Santa Anita is a no bueno for me as well. Its so enticing because of the large pools... but I just cannot crack the code at the Cali tracks

Papi, it's depressing but it can't hurt and watch and try to figure it out, but sure a big obstacle mental and otherwise, like dropping the Belmont Stakes down from 1 1/2 mile.  Racing is losing its sense of history.

Presque De Isles and Turfway, GP, and Woodbine will be shipping tons more there now with smiles on their faces.

Looking at my one year ROI here's I'd be willing to substitute if they're ever running simultaneously:

Charles Town
Churchill
Colonial
Fair Grounds
Del Mar
Monmouth
Tampa Bay
Thistledowns
Woodbine
