I bought liteningonthebeac h from a quality trainer and have been delighted with the purchase.  My advice is buy from quality people and you will do fine.

Those sites are all kind of the same. I once tried to get a nice stud to do some breeding with, turns out the description didn't match at all what I got.  Oh well!!

Do your homework, know your owners/trainers, stick to your budget, and you can do ok. Have bought and sold there without issue, but few and far between because a lot of the buyer beware replies above are correct.

I've been burned more times than not on the site. Also the owner is a douche bag who's out for himself for the commissions and fuck everyone else

A buyer should not put any validity in the "Owner's Statement" or "Comments" on the website; or on a catalog page from live auction for that matter. Read what the sales contract says.

With ongait, the horse is supposed to be available for inspection, full vetting, x-rays, blood, etc. If not, then that tells you all you need to know. If you cut corners, don't due complete due diligence, and don't leave no stone unturned, then you are asking for problems. It can be cost prohibitive to do if you are trying to buy a really cheap horse. Most horses on the site are about what, $10k to $15k or less. Plus, look at who you are doing business with. Buyer beware!

   Luther Brothers current bid $10,400
Greg got that bid started because anyone that knows that horse in Ohio knows he is a heartless, gutless pos. Looks like he is going to xxxxx any given second in mile. Monticello or Red Shores type horse, maybe Maine.

I have some success and some failure but always do my research and will not buy off a host of owners and trainers.

Two of my favorite listings this week, here is PT Stable with Keystone Pheonix. He writes here is your chance to buy a very nice horse.  The horse has made you 230K while you used Daguet and Dowse.

Rule of thumb, don’t buy off these trainers and people who use these type of trainers regularly.  If they are willing to use them think what they think of you as a buyer.

Open his lines and he is LAME and put on vets list last start.  Can you ask me why I would ever bother looking at a listing this guy ever puts up again.

Then I love Greg Luther Binge on Yankee comment-this wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me.

In the listing he was able to pay him into the Gerrity at Saratoga which is an invite race only!!!  So unless he paid off the race secretary, I doubt he paid him in!  PS i don”t believe he paid off the race secretary

That is because Brian Brown is a fine individual.

The horse was everything Brian said he was without exception.  I would buy off of Brian anytime!

This is exactly the ticket. You have to be very careful who you buy off of, but there are nice horses to be had, both here and the PE biweekly sale.

It also matters what you are looking for; some good bred fillies with race-only connections are an angle for breeders, like any auction.

you can have world champion and 1:47.3 performer  Dealt A Winner currently for 6600. The 13 year old popped up at Ocean Downs where he has been pretty competitive with some wins but hasnt he done enough on the track already to earn a retirement. Doesnt Jeffery Snyder have any money to spare since he won over a million $ with him as a 3yo and aged pacer

This classy veteran is 100% sound with no issues. Racing solidly at Ocean Downs, he has been ITM in his last 10 starts, with 6 of those being OTB (including a win in a Pop Up Series Final in his last start). A career winner of over $1.5 million, he has over $23k this year on his card. Only selling because Ocean Downs is closing for the year. He will be a fine addition to anyone's stable.

I saw this too. One can only hope someone from his past has eyes on this horse because he's one step away from Amish limo status. How disappointing.

That horse deserves to be retired and live out his older years like a king. A true war horse

I know he upset Wiggle It Jiggle It in the Cane Pace in 47.3 at the Big M but his finest moment might have been coming first up into a 26.1 2nd quarter and winning in 1:47.3 in the Allerage fighting off McWicked at the finish. Not a big horse at all but a heart of grit showing up week after week for years in the ffa and open ranks
