Northville Race 5- WTF?!
« on: August 20, 2025, 02:50:13 PM »
4 horses are bet  in this 5-horse Michigan SS. The only longshot ( 34-1) gets $1000 place bet out of $1270 ( by contrast, just two bucks to show), and, naturally, runs out.

Clearly the pools were successfully manipulated....
Was that bet displayed after the bell?
Clearly CAW?
And- I know that this may be a really stupid question--- but if  the driver gave an honest effort in the race, is doing something like that against the rules/law?

it was pool manipulation

they flushed $1k down the toilet on a worthless longshot to try and puff up the place price on the 1-2 favorite #5 Global Time

unfortunately for the manipulators--#5 finished 3rd and their plan backfired on them

this was NOT CAW action-they bet in to the pools

it was manipulated for bets that do not go into the pools-either a dumb bookie or an off shore entity

this was definitely not CAW and why anyone would think so is mind boggling

You can bet huge amounts on offshore books that don’t go into the pool

Imagine Northville’s place pool is $2k. A 1-9 favorite will naturally pay $2.10 to place. If you bridge jump $10k on that favorite to place at the track, it would increase the pool size to $12k, still pay 2.10, and you’d take home $10,500 with a win.

If you make a $1k place bet into the pool on a long shot, however, and then place a $9k bet on Bovada (or any comparable site) that doesn’t go into the pool, it will pay more. The on-track place bet would increase the pool size to $3k, raise the favorite’s place payout to around 4.00, and Bovada would pay you out based on that price. You’d make $9k in profit and come home with $18k.

All that being said this is blatant pool manipulation and you’re at risk of getting your funds seized from both entities. So whether it is worth the risk is up to you

on a track such as this, the offshore books have a "limit" on how much you can bet

usually they work as teams--5-10 different players playing the max amount possible--usually a "one and done" opportunity

and if you keep winning-they will close your account

wherever they can make money they will manipulate the pools

in fact, with a track that barely handles anything-the manipulation is cheaper--they only needed to flush $1k

this happens at other tracks also where CAWs are not interested

Arapahoe in Colorado is another venue where this happens often

I am surprised any bookie or offshore business will take a track like Northville

and of course no one can see the move because the bet comes in after the race starts from other venues that are not CAW--like the hubs in Oregon and Lexington

a bit shady but effective

the had a guy from Boston doing this to the pools are Beulah and the guy never failed

I did this a few times years ago when Prairie Meadows had harness racing and some races didn't have $75 in the show pool.
There was an offshore that took that action.
