Let's ask Walter Case talk, mentor the kid.

Case could win a race with a habitual loser coked up and blinded folded.

It's called being a functional addict, in Case's case he would be called a highly functional addict.

Remember when BRANDON Givens attacked a vendor at DELAWARE STATE FAIR and stole money from him...... isn't that considered a FELONY.......why would USTA let him be a member again.......

How do you know he is a member of UStA?  Don’t have to be a member to race

Way to go

I would never condone jeopardizing others while under the influence--same as any drunk driver like Merriman

I was just wishing him luck going forward with his addiction

then some asshole says I am from another planet--thats all
I am offended......you are calling me an asshole when I personally know all the people involved.....grow up....I consider you duplicitous

When is someone out of chances?  He’s had a bunch and blows it every time.  It’s not someone’s right to be licensed, slap in the face to all those who play by the rules!  Way to go has been spot on regarding this subject!   tmbz1

Brandon is battling addiction and will be for the rest of his life

i wish him the best of luck going forward

my wishing him "best of luck going forward" has absolutely nothing to do with......

A) harness racing
B) his driving
C) how many times he has failed a drug test
D) how many times he has been in/out of rehab
E) how long he spent in jail
F) what he did at the State Fair
G) what his parents did or how much they do or don't drink
H) who or how many people "know his family" or his situation
I)  how many chances he has already had

the kid has a bad addiction, and "going forward" I wish him the best of luck as a human being

why is this so difficult to comprehend ?

You have nothing to explain to people who think being really tough is being the final judge of others.

They are, and always will be powerless.

To sit there and type away picking away at the weakest fucking link!

You're objective, yet wish for the best in another.  Yes my brother, you have a soul!

Horseplop brings varying aspects, such as sharing information and ideas, some serious ball breaking, much laughter and entertainment, big time racism and ignorance, flat out lies, some very solid bettors , some nice respectful people some very horrible people.

this was a case of an ugly reply to me and I lowered myself ....and engaged

There are cemeteries, urns full of people, once like us, who got seconds, third, fourth....chances

Some were just kids, left alone.  When you become an adult though and...

If life becomes too hard, things go wrong, make it interesting, and challenge yourself to do the "impossible" - don't squander the opportunity, we're capable of anything!

I met him at The Little Brown Jug a year before he slid into heavy drugs. He was driving at .350 average and looked like he was going to be a good driver maybe great.
He was funny and good story teller that year.  The next year he was heavy into some bad stuff, looked rough and wasn't the same magnetic personality.
Late at night in a drunken conversation he spilled his guts about the tragic accident that killed Hal Belote and how the images were stuck in his head. I could see it was haunting him and am glad he has found away to recover from the addiction and wrestle the demons in a healthy manner. Getting back into racing is probably not the best idea as the lifestyle it will be tough to abstain... I am rooting for him though!

You can't run away from life.

You man up, and you kill what's killing you before it kills you.

You can't blame the place, the job, the people around you, you got shit in your head dump it on a therapist.

It's called DETERMINATION, it's like a laser that will go through anything.

We all have it.

Can you activate it?

Hint, conjure up a goal at the end of it, even the most impossible but physically feasible - and start there!

It won't matter if there are an ocean of drugs, food, vices around you!   tmbz1

that accident had a profound affect on one of my favorite drivers Steve Warrington--Hal and Steve were close friends and Steve basically got out of racing because of it

The accident was horrible and what you wrote was one of the most poignant things I've read on Plop.

How the suffering living, lived on here.

It's a reminder too of this profession while rare has a mortality rate, and an even higher injury, debilitating rate.

Unlike going to an office everyday, playing golf for a living...that's how Mr. Belote, Harness Driver was lifted from his mortal coil.

While potentially horrible consequently, it's romantic and empowering and brave doing something you love, providing for your family, that is knowingly dangerous too.

Noble.

Everyone has demons and skeletons in the closet. Some are harder to overcome. Unless you have been through it you have no idea what it like mentally. Your brain is your strongest muscle in your body. I always said life is a bitch then you die. hopefully he can overcome his problems.
