Oak Grove 7/8/25 Bring Your "A" Game
« on: July 07, 2025, 10:59:34 PM »
Looks like the place to be for a matinee and a little hooky.  Was @$300k handle today.

I think humidity, rain tonight but by post, should be fast and beautiful.

9 solid 40k stakes, 4 pace, 5 trot. 3 yo, C, G, F.

Many of the top tier trainers, drivers.

Started the week down $220, ok, they were bad result value plays.  No chasing, just a fresh start, welcome to a brand new day!   ;D

Race 1 - The 5 and 6 I think have a problem, with a possible line up of 412, and if Purple Jesus rate's a bit better, the 1 might shake loose in the stretch and shock.  The 2 behind him, possibly locked in, or not enough time.  #1 the trainer / part owner 2 weeks off has to see this as a golden opportunity to be ready as his horse was doing a pocket 56 1/5 at the half last race.  Burke's 5, Norman's 6 why expose them to speed duels, they took their time getting into gear last race, and they'll be shooting for those 6 figure purses.

Perfect opportunity for 124, with the 1 on top.  Crazy!   ;D

Race 2 - The 3 Falcon first few seconds after the gate opened last week was a sharp left turn and banged wheels with Bourbon County and then ran to the right and then straightened out.  Made a huge 4 wide move in this short stretch and destroyed 5 of these horses with ease.  Lastly he shipped in a set his lifetime mark, now 2 weeks off.  #7 shipped well, had an easy rated w2w rail trip.  He didn't look great at the line.  He prefers off the pace so we'll give him the benefit of the doubt.  #5 Geremy Bobbitt's horse was caught behind a wall in the Falcon race and never had the best opportunity to win like the others.  #2 capable and fresh, was qualifying with top 3 yos in early May.

Look at the stallions of the horses entered in these races. Most of them are not Kentucky stallions.  This means a lot of money can be made by avoiding the Grand Circuit and racing in two states. This is bad for harness racing.

Just move all the good mares to KY and keep the top stallions in the other states with good sire stakes programs and there is no need for the Grand Circuit.

Nice post Kenny. Spot on. Times are changing. As for Oak Grove, couldn't find the thread but someone
on here was touting this Gimpanzee Dancer of Beaver's as a possible Hambo candidate because he won
the Currier and Ives. He's in today [6th] I hope and think he goes down [with Merriman driving , both literally
and figuratively] The 2 Yo Sheldon is 4 for 4 at Oak Grove with another fine trot man at the controls.

just a quick comment
we all know the grand circuit for the most part is dead
more money , more racing and less travel to race in one or maybe two sires stakes program
the meadowlands pace had 10 horses entered, enough said
and other than one or two races why would USA based horses and trainers want to ship up to Canada and race for Canadian dollars

Nice analysis. Never even watched this place but I took the program and did some speedd handicapping.

Race 1 I came up with #2 with the suck up rail trip.

#@ followed the script but Andy Miller nose short in what appeared to be an attempt to measure the win.

Race 2 box 367 ex and tris

Don't see what's so wrong with the #1 in the 2nd , especially if you talking about leaving him out of the tri.
I don't think so. We shall see. As a side note, I like the five in the seventh race [Delray Beach]
as my shot of the day, though I only handicapped thru race 8.

Wasted trip for Aaron. Somehow finds himself with a first over trip and there was also no need for him to move as early as he did with no one coming up on his outside. Not that it mattered.
