Yonkers and Aqueduct casinos apply for NYC casino

https://standardbredcanada.ca/notices/6-27-25/yonkers-among-new-york-casino-applicants.html

Well, the June 27 deadline has come and gone...and 8 applicants for the NYC casino have applied, including the casino companies at Yonkers and Aqueduct. The Avenir project, a JV between Silverstein Properties, Greenwood, and Rush Street was also one of them, and so was the SL Green/Caesars project. No surprises here. And let the games begin, LOL.

My money is on Jonker, Aqueduct and one more in Manhattan, possibly Caesars. This will end racing at Jonkers, Aqueduct is shutting down. Monticello will close by 2028, not looking good for buggy racing

You are correct Sir, expect this right here to continue each month until it happens. The off the cliff it will go.

I can't see how Aqueduct is not one of the selected.  It would appear they check most of the boxes and add a level of proven experience. Let's not forget the half billion the state support for the New Belmont an NYRA.
Yonkers I am not to sure of. They have one inherent edge, the proximity to Northern Jersey and the very lucrative Bergen County market. But, I don't know how strong their politics are.
Bottom line, get a casino license or not, Yonkers Raceway will be affected.  Maybe even eliminated.

I am completely shocked there hasn't been a post that states.....

A)--Trenton will suddenly be shaking in their boots about a casino in NYC
B)..NJ will just give Gural a casino
C)..harness racing will be saved, Exit 16W will be paved in gold and everyone involved in the industry will become wealthy and the sport will be cleaned up

NJ politics will not change anytime soon

Turning Stone, Foxwoods, Delaware, Pennsylvania didn't change the way Trenton operates and NYC casinos is no different

Not so sure, theres a lot of NYC people who still go to AC, what happens when they stay in Queens or Manhattan instead of going to AC, the Meadowlands will be looked at and I say its a long sjhot today, after the NYC casino opens I say it goes up to 60-75% favorable

Change is inevitable.  How and when is always the question.
With the trend and growth on line and supported and marketed by special events, I see the next fase of gambling, more importantly sports gambling with includes horse racing to be done without the support of brick and mortar.
Billion dollar old skool land based casinos are looing their investment dollars. Expanding current events into the gambling world is more like.

I don't know how much current licensees are "favored" to win, but from what I've read, it makes sense and it's been reported that the two racino locations are favorite. But, it's very early. OTOH, with each group having a "casino" as a partner, I wonder if it really makes a difference. The bids include three for Manhattan, one for the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens, and the two already existing locations.

MGM/Yonkers wants to spend $2.3 billion at their current location, including new restaurants and a mini arena/entertainment center that seats 5,000 people. I wonder how much will be spent on improvements for the racing side of the plant. Yeah, right. Not a dime.
