we are not allowed to ask--it might make Mike Campbell upset

Went to Gaitway qua this week and it was told that the leg will not hold up and he's done. Surprise surprise.  He was never gonna race this year.  It was all a show.

He was never the best of anything, he looked great & won the Hambo. His 2 yr old season was good too, made a ton of $.

When watching his 3 y.o year, it wasn't hard to tell something was off & they held him together well.

Anyone with any horsemanship & half a brain, knew he wasn't "the best Trotter ever".

MikeC was trying to be prophetic & it blew up in his face.
He isn't qualified to make that distinction.

We don't need to race, we do it for the love of horses & because we can. Great game if you have the means.
*3 y.o colt & filly have been top3 in their sire stake
*The 2 y.o's have shown a ton of talent & 1 just missed a sire stake win

You are peanut butter and jealous, and I'd love to hear your accomplishments in the industry as the foremost expert on what it means to be a success according to you.  "won the hambo" "made a ton of $" "not great"   ngc3

He's fertile but his semen fertility needs to improve.

So- it's either he's "the best Trotter ever" or my credentials get called out?

Your first fucking sentence...

"He was never the best of anything".

I do not disagree that best trotter ever is very debatable, heck they can't even agree that MJ is the GOAT of hoops.

You're just overly dragging a cloud and marginalizing very non nonchalantly his accomplishments.  You like I told you so.

I'm not a horseman and never owned a horse, but you are, did you even ever come close to ever putting a Karl on the track?

No doubt, but what trainer could afford to it for the 5% and just out of pocket costs?

Sport of Kings.  Burning money for the thrill.

Once in a very rare while you get lottery type lucky and overcome the mountain of cash you squandered and don't get fucked at the later steps i.e. breeding.

Or you get your shit together and put together, and deploy a well oiled very connected syndicate .

When Karl was "right", I thought he showed some greatness. I always put him in my "Top 20" trotters. I'm sorry he was hurt and could never regain the form he had. As a former owner who lost a small fortune in our "game", I wish I had a "Karl" in my stable.

Hurt ?  If so I would like to know if it was due to racing or an injury in the stall, paddock, trailer or such.  Makes a difference when selecting to a sire….   We will never know.

I didn't expect much at all with him coming back. He wasn't on anyone's GOAT list, at least not anyone credible or with a qualified opinion. But I would have liked to have seen him comeback healthy, sound, etc. While I didn't expect him to compete at the top of the class at all, if by some chance he could, it would have been a nice addition to the aged trotting class.

Racing injury. He was fast but always looked a little off left rear. That is why always bearing out in stretch. Finally caught up to him. I would take a wait and see approach as far as breeding. But then if you breed first crop and get a good looking colt you could get big money at the sales for it
