WIth all due respect to those with a different opinion, this guy, who I truly did not know existed before a few weeks ago, will be no worse than any of the other mayors that NYC has had recently. The same circumstances that led to Trump is how this guy is where he is.

It is a weird dynamic to be sure, a Democratic city with an entrenched monied class who could not give two fucks about the average person. And the mayors have tended to be establishment types that were completely out of touch with the majority of the folks that live there.

I will say that before Guiliani lost his fricking mind, he did a good job of clearing the riff raf off of the sidewalks and out of everyone's way. It was probably the only time a mayor in my lifetime did anything that materially changed the NYC experience.

Look, I went to college there and have worked there for nearly 30 years. The city needs to change its ways, the monied folks have done everything they could to prevent any meaningful progress and that needed to change. It is a city that has been traditionally run by the one percenters. The fact that the complete fuckwad asshole Andrew Cuomo was the runner up tells you all you need to know about the NY politics.

I am getting a little old in the tooth---I just hope before I kick it there there is one NY governor and/or NYC mayor that actualy does a good job---and I say all iof this as a progressive.

So I am AOK if this guy lights a fire under the priviliged and makes them squirm.

PS: If I could wave a magic wand the one thing I would like to see is a greater police presence throughout the subway system and a zero tolerance policy for homeless people making the subway cars their defacto apartments. Some stations and some lines are worse than others, but that situation has been getting worse.
