Louprint "only" paced a middle half of 52 flat last night. The fact that he lived to tell about it shows how great a colt he is.

Madden Oaks was tremendous in defeat--both he and Louprint are eligible to the Meadowlands Pace. Should be a fantastic rematch.

1:19.1, 1:47.1 nothing ordinary about that. Six horses within two and a quarter lengths.

i thought Captain Optimistic raced pretty brave in defeat, essentially parked the mile.
Bad time for an indecisive clunker by Dexter....

Dunn's drive was a genius drive. the horse just didn't have it.
He was behind the winner parked but did not want to go first over. So he gapped enough to let the 2 out whom went first over and his horse had a perfect 2nd over trip.  He just did not have it. This was just his 3rd start of year. That's steep for 3 starts.

A lot better drive that D Miller gave on the 9.
Btw the 2 that went first over finished 9th.

See this a ton in the big races - guys just don’t want to be boxed in when they’re going for that much money.

unbelievable to see a colt on a tough front end in those fractions and win
how do you beat a colt when he can do that and still win
no closers to be seen

Congratulations to Ronnie Wrenn Jr and Louprint, not so much to the trainer and connections. It's had to have been a tough year for him with Hunter's tragic death. Score one for the Midwesterners driving colony. On another note, my selection Captain Optimistic was hung the whole mile by Dexter and still got 4th without a ton of urging down the lane. If that was a "regular" race someone would have given him a hole. It was nice to see the no holds barred, non buddy system in effect, at least for a few races. Watch out for Captain Optimistic moving forward.

He did not mention Hunter by name but in the post race interview he mentioned a patch he is wearing to honor him and said he was "with him" that night. Ronnie Wrenn  Braxton Boyd made a great race a feel good race as well. I am glad Burke let Wrenn keep the drive.

Burke has been loyal to his drivers thru the years, first Palone, Gingras, Brennan at Yonkers, Chris Page and now Ronnie Wrenn.

But he has also given them the boot on occasion.  Palone with Sweet Lou, Foiled Again, etc. and Page with Bythemissal. Page drove in the Battle of Lake Erie with Gingras in Canada.

There are always exceptions like when Gingras drives at Yonkers in the winter, Brennan gets the boot most of the time. When a driver is doing well with a horse Burke almost always sticks with them, I admire his loyalty.

It is not loyalty when you stick with a winner.  It only takes one race for Burke to turn on someone. Page did great with Bythemissal in Ohio but after one bad race it was Gingras.  He dropped Palone off Sweet Lou like a hot potato. He does give drivers a shot probably more than most but he does have a short fuse at times.
