I don't bet Mohawk very often and have never played it when there was the mandatory payoff because they usually hit you with a 12-horse field which makes the ticket too expensive to have enough coverage.

I'm not siding with anybody, but the track did make the announcement regarding the mandatory payoff 4 or 5 days in advance.

Like they always do. Always nice to announce it ahead of schedule.  The point is from my 45 years attending the races.  You have the daytime crowd and then you have the evening crowd. Very small percentage do both on a regular basis. Most All the carryover money went to people who could care less about woodbine.  They should have catered to their fans.  I’m no longer a fan of their administration.  I will still watch and root for my selections but they will not do me wrong again.  APOLOGIZE RANDY.  I KNOW YOU ARE READING!!!!

Their thinking was obviously, it's a holiday so more people will have off but some people still have to work on holidays. I still don't think Randy has anything to do with it. Obviously the track's only goal is to have the largest pool possible, and you're never going to please everybody.

Randy doesn't make those decisions for sure

Maybe he doesn't want to say anything negative about the people who sign his paycheck.

It's like these homer broadcasters for sports teams, they rarely if ever say anything negative about a player or the team unless it's totally called for. They don't want to ruffle anyone's feathers, it's also called job security.

I heard him the other night talking about a trotter that Scott Youngie was on. He said he was going to the Hambo and was in NW1. 8/5 when the gate was rolling and went off 1/9…. WOW…I was totally bewildered first how he said he was Hambo material and second that somebody actually listened to him.  He got BEAT in 55.4.  Sure what a prospect was he.

The times I've listened to him he doesn't strike me as a very good handicapper.

Do you think its possible that when they did the mandatory payout on a Holiday, they thought maybe it would bring in more revenue? Idk the answer, but it seems like someone thought it was a great idea.
The last race went off well after people were out of work. No one works after 3 PM even if they are at work anyway at most jobs. It is not as if there will never be another mandatory payout. They and others seem to have them very often.

10 horse field=30240 possible combinations  10x9x8x7x6
12 horse field=95040 possible combinations  12x11x10x9x8

they always have the mandatory payout pentafecta on the last race

they are not doing this for the retail bettor
they are doing it to create more handle from Elite Turf Club
