Shame it wasn't RR that survived and not the piss hole.

Let's assume Roosevelt Raceway would have survived over Yonkers, who would own it today?

As soon as the VLT'S came into form, other gambling entities, MGM, Harrahs, Penn National, et al. took control?

Would it be any different today?

I grew up going to Yonkers and Roosevelt. It was a "no brainer" on which track was nicer. Roosevelt, in Westbury NY was a great track. Easy ride from Brooklyn. About 45 minutes without traffic. The real estate it sat on was prime land. Thus no more Roosevelt. Yonkers, a much longer ride, always looked "dingy". The neighborhood around it was "dicey" at best. I'm not surprised they are trying to get rid of it.

But where will the same ten trainers that have exclusive rights to race against each other (and themselves) every night at Yonkers go if it closes? Assuming they're not locked up...

They will be given day passes to race at Harrahs Chester during the day. Prison bus will pick them up after the races and transport them back to jail. Proceeds from winning purses will go to Howard Taylor for their defense.

I always thought it would make sense to just put the Chester paddock in the adjacent prison yard and just open the gates for each post parade. It could approximate the prison rodeos they have down south.

How much has Faraldo robbed?  How many envelopes has Frasure received when the doors are closed?

Every horseplayer feels the wrong track closed. LOL. Nothing more than what if, conjecture, and so on. NY doesn't have a decoupling requirement, but if there is a possibility that MGM can get out of the racing business, and keep the casino, and that appears to be the case, then they are going to do it. That's obvious. I don't know if that has anything to do with getting a license for NYC/LI or what, but they don't want racing.

This is all accurate. RR was ran into the ground the last few years it existed. When I went nearly all the floors were closed, and the attendance on track was @50-100 people at best.
Sadly it’s always the same story…The land is worth more developed into something other than a racetrack.
Gulfstream is next to fall. That land is worth a fortune.
I think of all the tracks I went to which are shopping centers or housing:
RR, Freehold (will be developed), Liberty Bell, Brandywine, Freestate, Foxboro, Maywood, Pompano, Calder, Hialeah, Garden State….I am sure I’m missing a bunch.

It's a sign of the time, bettors know buggy racing is corrupt.
