Why put money into something you’re shutting down in a few years once racing is uncoupled from the casino?

If Yonkers doesn’t get the casino, they’ll shut racing down since their revenue will go way down.

If they get the casino they will shut racing down saying they need the room for expansion. Have you seen the barns?

Those concrete equine cells were condemned over 30 years ago.

Yonkers has a casino. Or at least a slots parlor. Their revenue ain’t going nowhere. Most real casinos make 90% of the money on slots.

I think Yonkers may have close to 5000 machines-----slots, video poker, keno, and video table games like craps, baccarat, blackjack, and roulette.

The last time I was at Yonkers the betting section was the same. How old are those colored row chairs? At least they had some newer tv's.
I was in the paddock to see a friend's horse. The roof was leaking. What struck me as odd was the ramp up to the track.

Can someone explain why these all aren't full blown casinos and not just slots or video games?

is it that they can charge more for those gaming licenses?

why don't all these tracks in NY have full blown casinos--i mean craps, blackjack, roulette, baccarat and any other game

I don't get it

Vernon
Tioga
Buffalo
Batavia
Saratoga
Monticello(already has Resorts World)?
Yonkers
Finger Lakes
NYRA

I'm not sure about New York, but in Ohio it was kinda weird. We have 4 casinos.. Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus and Toledo. No racing, just slots and table games. That was passed by the voters. Then we have multiple racinos.. Scioto, Dayton, Miami Valley, Northfield, Thistledowns, Belterra and Mahoning Valley. Those all have racing and slots only and was passed by the state legislature.

In NY the law that was passed allows Video Lottery Terminals. Just like the Historical Racing machines they resemble slit machines but pay out a little different than traditional slot machines. Those 2 new types were a work around to get the laws passed.

Stan, you got that right. That was 24 years ago. A new model  of raring and gaming is now making it's way across the USA. One that does not include a direct subsidy of racing.

Tioga has a full Casino license with Craps Black Jack etc. originally Tioga was left out, however Jeff Gural flashed cash and he was given a license. NY will issue 3 more full licenses for NYC that will crush the Casino in Monticello
