Dexter@ meds Friday night.
« on: April 26, 2025, 11:38:37 AM »
Did he seem drunk or just unfocused? 3 different races where he totally screwed up from what I saw. One being Taranaki.
Anyone else notice him being off?

He was like that last week in a few races.  I said it before...this is how he is when he first shows back up to Meadowlands.  When he's driving these shit races and bad horses, he doesn't put forth real effort.

The Taranaki race missing the gate by 5 had me swearing. Watching the fraction of 26 flat taking back was probably the best move since they have been gutting this horse weekly.  Horse proved he was tons the best had a horrible trip and possibly a worse drive.  The open trot last night letting herbertson go an never re moving had me swearing also! But hey he's driver of the year.. year after year and I'm an owner sooo I'm gonna say he knows best lol

I'm sure lots of people were screaming last night with Taranaki.  Many of his drives have me screaming.  He just sat there letting Herbertson go by ..wth was that about.  I don't know but it's like James MacDonald at Mohawk.  These two are two of a kind in many ways.

It's like preseason for him leading up to the stake season.

Seems like someone brings this up every year he starts back. But then he puts up 10-12 mill in purses.
I was fortunate enough to watch the maturation of John Campbell from the early 80’s on. Dexter in big money races seems to close to how clutch John was, not as but a solid 2nd. But my observation is that John always took so much pride in his craft from driving overnights in January at Meds to driving on Hambo day or when we used to all go to Pompano for the one night of Breeders Crowns. Dexter doesn’t seem to have that drive the John had for 30 plus years. That’s why in my opinion John was the greatest driver to ever live and always carried himself in a professional manner. People just don’t seem to realize the commitment he had to his craft.

When Campbell drove the quality of racing was much better, they had many early and late closers for good money, plus they ran 5 nights a week. All those series no longer exist, the purses are lower and they only run twice a week. The current top drivers do alot more travelling now than before, make doubleheaders, and travel everywhere for 5 or 6 months of the year. Alot of those races weren't around back then. There is really little incentive now for the top drivers to drive during the winter months.

Birdy you’re at least consistent. Criticizing the top two drivers in the world Dexter and James.

I don’t disagree with the opportunity are more now. John just had more pride in his work and he flew all over the NA to drive .
I haven’t seen a driver with John’s cents of pride on his craft since John

Saying it how it is.  And James MacDonald is a CRIMINAL!  Nothing but a POS crook.  They do nothing to this cheating ahole.  Just watch the 4th race...like he always does...stays off the board when he's the favorite.  He's scum

Birdy you need to learn the game some more. James moved to the front and his horse stopped was all out to get to the front. Horse was no good he’s not cheating if he’s on the front turning for home.

I don't know if you bet him, but if you did and get so upset when your horse loses, maybe you shouldn't be gambling.

No I actually bet against him if I play Mohawk.  I haven't placed any bets there in a while.  It's a corrupt track.  No denying it.

I rarely bet Mohawk myself other than when the out-of-town drivers are there for the big races. Whether you think it's corrupt or not is your own business. I know you're fairly new to the sport, what's happened at Mohawk in recent years is some of the drivers from Canada's "B" tracks have moved over there, coming from mainly 1/2-mile tracks where the racing style is totally different, and are making alot of ill-timed premature moves resulting in the appearance something shady is going on. I'm not saying it never happens but don't necessarily think it's corrupt.
