Back in the 80's he did a remote broadcast from the Turf Club in Upper Darby, PA just outside of Philly with his co-host and actually announced the live races off the TV monitor. Some people came up to him between races and asked for his autograph, and he acted like they weren't even there and ignored them.

No doubt he's an ambassador for the sport. Whether you think he's a good one or not is up to you. But, the guy lives and breathes the sport. Without question.

does that give him a free pass to inaccurately scream his race calls for over 50 years?

I guess it gives him a free pass to perform his job as he sees fit, best he can, whatever. I think it also gives everyone the right to like his work or not; as far as like him personally, to each their own.....and I am guessing the only ones who can hold him and his work accountable are his employer(s). JMO.

The majority of the people on the non-racing side of his employer think he’s a sour dickhead. 40 years ago he couldn’t correctly pronounce a horse’s name with more than four letters. I guess he failed 3rd grade spelling. He has the brain of a grape.

I've met him on more then one occasion in Delaware. He would come up to the grandstand and schmooze with the ultra wealthy owners. He is extremely arrogant and thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread.I could tolerate him 20 or 30 years ago but he is just WAY past his shelf life. I remember when I was a kid, maybe 10 years old I said to my Grandpa, look there is Roger Huston, the guy that calls the races. My Grandfather said yeah that's him.  After Roger walked away from kissing the ass of the owners in the box in front of us, I'll never forget my Grandfather saying " I can't stand that son of  a bitch." As I got older I understood why. My grandfather was in the game from the sixties until the day he passed away in 2010.

Exactly, he always acted like he was sitting on a spiked dildo. I figured he was trolling for alternative lifestyle men with the 10 gold rings.

It's all about his ego. He thinks just because he's been around forever and knows everybody, it gives him the right to treat everyday people like they're nobodies.
