Racing in Maine starts tomorrow!!!!!
« on: April 10, 2025, 10:49:47 AM »
Well, as you all know harness racing in Maine is in pretty sad shape. But for a fan like me, heading out to the Cumberland Fairgrounds on a sunny day is kinda fun. You can't bet a twenty to win on a horse, because you'll make it 4-5 on the toteboard. Post times is a "odd " 3:15PM. A 10 race card tomorrow with all the same cast of drivers/trainers as usual. So it's "Post Time" here in Maine!

We need cumberlamd. Without it, there would be minimal trainers left. People couldn't survive on just the fairs. A few guys have entered at the ridge for Monday's opening: great purses but tough racing. Time will tell if more try.

I agree. We always hear rumors that some investors are looking to build a small new track off the turnpike in southern Maine. But i'm not sure if thats serious talk or just rumors.

having a $2.20 minimum payoff in the place pool is interesting

other states should employ this-it could only help handle

The talk of a new track has been going on for years. Nothing is happening. With all of the economic indicators for harness racing showing decreases each year, building a new track is not feasible. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm also a realist.

there will be no new track for the reasons you stated

the fairs should try and get their signal out to the simulcast world

maybe they could all pitch in for the costs and share in any revenue created--if any

FYI he's off today. Will be driving tomorrow night at the Meadowlands.  Today is his gym day and laugh at the cash he makes.

Looked at the ridge entries. Beckwith is in every race. In one race, he's listed on 5 of the 7 horses.  He's good.

NOTHING BUT TRUTHS
