Please. Are they somehow experiencing a different winter than Nfld, Meadows, Pocono, Saratoga, Buffalo?I think not. I do think they apparently suck. BIG TIME.
Absolutely correct and this winter wasn’t any different than the past 10 years except less snow.
Really??? This has been the worst winter for most of the eastern coast in 10 years. Not only for snow and ice but for freeze thaw. When it starts to thaw out just before post time you are screwed
That's because the track can't rid itself of water. Any decent racetrack can handle it. That track has been stripped to its base, that's not the trackman's fault. It's not a farm track where you have to freeze dry and beat the thaw. They can never ready it for winter with a coarse material and ride out the winter. But come on, three weeks? If it's holding that much moisture they should have shut down and tore it up to expose it.
You have you have a course material to race all winter or it breaks down and turns into mush by spring. Not saying they were not short on material there starting the winter but this winter has been brutal for every trackman. It happens and very few racetracks are set up for a winter like this these days. Northfield races at night which gives them the advantage of catching it as the temperature drops. The other tracks mentioned just started back racing so material isn’t so beat up. Other than the Meadows and Bruce has a big advantage with his material budget over most tracks
You have to replace it along the way. As for every track....why only Monticello? Since the day the place started racing year round it's been the same. Never ever this bad. Saratoga goes year round on the main track even not racing it's used and maintained. Not blaming the trackman, I know they don't give him any budget to work with. So now it rained, today another shit show, tonight goes down to 25 then sun and warm tomorrow. What's the over/under on racing?
When did Saratoga start racing year round?
Since the horsemen wanted “winter racing” to race for less purse money and increased opportunity to endanger their barns!!
First of all, NYS Gaming has to approve it. Secondly, these people can't afford to walk from their barn to the paddock at MR, who's going to pay for the trip to Yonkers? You think the track that couldn't care less if they race would entertain this? The actual issue is the track. They have no material. Nothing even close to what is necessary to correctly rebuild "not repair" the track they have. Ownership is only concerned with who gets a license in NYC, after that nothing good is going to happen. The backstretch at Monticello is absolutely disgusting. The grandstand is closed. They weren't even answering the phones at the race office this morning. And like Trump told Zelensky, the horsemen have no cards in their hand. Where are Faraldo and Schwartz in all this??? You know the horsemen's association who are there to protect and represent them? It's pushing a month and the truth is no those people cannot absorb this.
