Improving?  The 2 drives he had Friday night at the meadowlands were both magical mystery tours.  Both horses went about 100 ft more than a mile.  These were his 1st drives at the meadowlands this year, and it looked it.

I've met Mitch a few times at the Scarborough Downs (when it was still open) and he told me he was going to try other tracks outside of Maine. He's raced at a lot of places with limited success. It would seem that he and Matty Athern both left about the same time. But Matty seems to have done a lot better than Mitch. I'm not sure why.

Athearn benefits from having his uncle (Jimmy Nickerson) and his mother (Gretchen Athearn) as trainers.

Wow, "magical mystery tour"? thats a Henry Hecht of the NY Post expression, no?

If Cushing were to ever try a good colony he'd starve.  Didn't last long in Ohio and he was driving all of Hitchcock's barn.  That experiment wasn't great.

Looks like he will spend most of his time racing at Saratoga and Plainridge. Neither has an abundance of top-tier drivers. He'll get his share of drives. Plus with him owning parts of the horses, he should do just  fine

He could make Rock Diamonds N go like the wind, great old horse there.
We don't need to race, it's the camaraderie & the bond with the horses that makes it special.
*3 y.o colt has 2 wins so far as a sophomore,  3 starts
 *3 y.o filly has surprised, a win & a 3rd,  3 starts

Yes of course its a Beatles reference. Columnist used it to refer to circus drives etc.

At least he drives at tracks that race for good money and won't starve living off his 5% racing at these tracks!
