HORSES THAT PULL
« on: October 13, 2024, 03:39:00 PM »
Trainers and drives used to tell me that if my horse is not on the lead he will cause an accident and may fall and i guess that was never true as i have not seen a horse race that never hives up the lead in a long time and so was it in the heads of trainers and never true,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Ever notice for the most part trainers will rig for a puller rather than try to determine why they pull? I'll never forget a horse I used to jog for Jimmy Nickerson who was dead mouthed with a dog chain. I said let me jog him once, I turned him the right way and from then on he was two fingers. Literally. Once in a while some patience pays off.

send them to the Amish for 10 days

they will hook them with one of their plow horses and work their field.

let them see how they want to pull then

Or they learn to pull bc they're running from something, often pain.

Exactly what I'm talking about. Find the cause instead of treating the symptom.

Absolutely true & for ones who try to leave the track as well, generally in pain!

Lets rephrase the question as IMHO not specific enough.
For a horse that has been thoroughly checked out by a top Veterinarian/university and dentist-is trained by a top trainer--but still pulls what bit would you use?. From horses that Ive owned ive seen the following:

1.Mini bit
2. Crescendo bit
3. Lip cord
4. Snake bit
5. JIC bit
I have a horse that pulls after being thoroughly checked. The trainer told me that if the horse still pulls after trying these techniques, then it's time to find a new home for the horse or put him down in a class where he can just cut the mile. The trainer says that a horse that only knows how to do one thing is never good because drivers know how to beat this kind of horse.Horses also dont last long being gutted every start.????
