Whipping fines
« on: September 13, 2024, 01:23:33 PM »
Over $5300 for last week postings. Obviously, the fines aren't working. What next?

I say take repeat offenders whips away!

agree

if they increased the fines substantially or threatened suspension instead of a fine maybe it might help a little bit

they wouldnt be able to get away with taking the whip away

Fifty years ago Milt Taylor at Liberty Bell took the whips away and replaced them with riding crops like the jockeys use. That didn’t last long. Yonkers tried it too.

I don't understand why whips with a cracker is mandatory. There's no upside to beating an animal with a cracker! It's the cracker that does the damage.  11.wp

And when Milt Taylor gave them all jockey bats, during one heated stretch drive Vern Crank reached up to reef one and missed and almost fell out of the bike, so he tossed the bat into the infield...LMAO

Vernon Crank drove a local(Liberty Bell/Brandywine) Invitational horse named Town Drunk in the late 70s

a few years later he was run over by a drunk driver while walking his dog

And is it true, or apocryphal, that Brandywine announcer Roy Shudt, referred to Crank during a post parade, as The Town Drunk?

Fines mean little to most drivers.  They knock the hell out of a horse and the fine is often less than their commission.  Remember TDS getting pounded 2 starts in a row at Lexington ? The fine was a pittance of what the 5% was and probably the owners picked that up.
One day the SPCA will have a person at the draw gate handing out cruelty to animal citations.

Non deterrent fines. Just listen to Anthony McDonald s podcast, he slots 6000 a month for whipping fines. These fines in PA , Ohio are like the fines NFL players get. In contrast to what the make the fines are just a write off

I'm sure he bills the Stable owners anyway, zero out of pocket.
