Great Italian food after the races at the Mighty M!
« on: August 29, 2024, 07:38:44 PM »
For all you folks who still head up to Sullivan County, try "Casa Mia" restaurant in Hurleyville, NY. I used to go to it when it was Fankie & Johnnies the last 50 years or so. I was there last week! Great food. If you like some great Spaghetti with clam sauce and Chicken Parm. Same old place. No frills. Just great food. And great prices too!

Super good! Fresh clams sauteed with garlic, oil, and red pepper over pasta! Yum!

Back in the day, it was 17B  ---  Carpenitos, Fazli's, and El Monaco

For me it was Mama Russo's on 17B, just down from the stable gate heading towards the Valley great garlic bread, Meat Balls were huge, great people. Great place to race then.

So is the best restaurant in Monticello nowadays is either Tilly’s Diner or the Miss Monticello Diner?

The best is Casa Mia (The old Frankie & Johnnys) in Hurleyville. Great Italian food. The old Liberty Diner still makes the best Chinese Roast Pork Garlic sandwiches in the Catskills. Amazing baked goods too! The Monticello Bagel Factory still makes the best Taylor Ham/Cheese/Egg Bagel on earth. LOL! The Miss Monticello Diner and Tilly's Diner are still good for breakfast, but a couple of small breakfast places have opened near Woodstock with great breakfast deals. And as for a good "Black & White" cookie and rainbow cookies, nothing compares to Fialkoff's bakery.

The best Italian restaurant back in the day up to the 90's was in that strip mall across from the Horizon diner. It's been too long ago for me to remember the name of it or the street name. The best mussels marinara on the planet. I was in there a lot eating those mussels with a side of garlic bread. There was a fancy Italian restaurant a little up the road, but the food wasn't as good.

You mean a butcher for fresh sausage? Or a great meal with sausage?

Baby Dougie, still so new and naive.  He doesn't mean either one of those.  ngc3
Same with the Clam Sauce.  Lance is an expert in all white "sauces"    ngc3
