Poor Illinois Harness Horsemen
« on: August 15, 2024, 11:23:18 AM »
So today was one of their few big days - the Springfield card where they're going for over half a million in purses. And what happens? Rain which makes that Springfield surface a surface you can't race on.  Races cancelled - to be re-scheduled at some point but not this week. Illinois harness racing can't catch a break....

Illinois harness racing sucks ever since Sportsmans Park closed and The World Trotting Derby left Du Quoin.

The World Trotting Derby was a great race--heat racing

I remember when you had to win 2 heats on the same day to win the Little Brown Jug. There were a few years where the 3 heat winners had to come back for a 4th heat on the same day. Even though they won't do it, I wish The Hambletonian would go back to when you had to win 2 heats the same day to be the winner.

2 heats and no lasix would show who the good horses are.

One of the best LBJ's I ever witnessed was when Fake Left beat Western Hanover in a 3rd heat

Yup Micky was in a nasty accident earlier in the card. I remember watching Fake Left in the jug preview at Scioto Downs the week before the jug and he showed nothing. I really wish Western Hanover would have won the year.

Wasn't really a nasty accident. Just an unruly horse that tossed him off another horse pre-race.
Wasn't a Western Hanover guy, though Bill Fahy was underrated. There used to be a dude that
dressed up for different horses at The Jug. You remember him JT? Don't think he goes anymore.

I do remember him and no I think he has passed away. I liked Bill's driving as well he was underrated.that race in I think 94 at the Meadowlands where he drove Jenna's Beach boy to a 147.1 back then was a classic. Except for jug day the crowd is sparce in Delaware now.. nothing like when I was a kid. We have had a box in the Grandstand in my family for over 50 years now

Waples drove Fake Left.

Who drove Western Hanover?

I believe it was "Bandit" Bill Fahy.

Who was a better driver at the time?
