MARCUS MELANDER

With all the millions he spends on yearlings, his results on Hambletonian day were less than stellar.  Plus it looks like his two big guns are under-performing as sires to date (Greenshoe and Gimpanzee)

8 starters: 5-6-6-6-8-9-10-10

he had a big splash a few years back with the 3 Gs Greenshow, Green Manalishi and Gimpanzee but what the heck happened after that. He is an afterthought now

Maybe he needed Brian Sears more than he thought.. remember that Sears is also a very good horseman and not just a great pilot..

It takes a very good trainer to stay at the top.  Many are average and pick a few nice ones and then reality sets in

Don't feel too sorry for him. He bred and owns the top 2 year old trotter in Canada who is favored in the midseason finals this week.  Funny thing is he gave the horse to McNair for the Canadian Sires Stakes and isn't even listed as trainer.

I was stabled behind Jay Sears for a season at Scioto Downs. Brian should be a very good horsemen if he picked up what his dad and knew and his work ethic.

Sears couldn't make peanuts with his stock last year that's why he stopped driving for him

Actually might be at mmmmm
Anyways their owners must be ready to jump ship. One time I saw them charge an owner 4k to "vet" a horse at a sale that they ended up not buying!!!

Greenshoe is definitely an overall bust so far but it's pretty rough to declare Gimpanzee a failure yet. There's less than 40 of them out there and a couple rather decent ones showed up at Lexington.

You left out Green Manalishi who is by far the most impressive of the three right out of the gate, though.

And yes, he cannot be happy with how things are going right now with his stable.

One of my last conversations with Marcus before I quit while I was jogging Distance Learning.

"Hey Marcus, he's got a limp. Should I take him back to the barn?"

Marcus : " no he will jog out of it " ( not even looking)

How's that distance Learning done elsewhere. What did yall get for him 10k??
