I just saw this video on monticello facebook.. i never knew they televised the Otb Classic from 1976..

Thank you Mr Dapple. That was really good. It was great hearing Max Brewer calling the race. It was good seeing Benny the Whip before his life went down the crapper and eventually died. I know I should be used to this by now, but seeing all those fans at MR in the grandstand and the apron compared to today brought back many good memories. The whipping by the 2nd place horse driver, Del Insko, was hard to watch.

i didn't know Webster life went down the crapper.. Whst happened? i thought he retired and opened a car wash or something like that with his kids ?

I believe he died without much to show for a long career. I wish I could recall all the details for you but getting older has it’s limitations. There is something about a fire in my memory and I will try to push it out. To be continued
