Most driving sons?
« on: August 11, 2023, 09:01:31 AM »
Who sired the most driving sons?
I don't know about the Filions or the Finns, but I do know that there is a driver in Wisconsin that sired four driving sons.
I am just an old horse trainer still going around in circles. Sometimes Fast. Sometimes Half-Fast.

Currently you have 4 Merton’s at Monticello. Years ago we had a bunch of Gilmour’s. John, George, Buddy and Lloyd.
The Manzi family had to have the most. I don’t really know who were brothers or cousins but that name really stretched out. Monticello Raceway had a race with all of them. The announcer said “ The Marshall calls the Manzi’s”.

LOL   Yeah Bobby Merton jr - really never drove ,much and kinda looked different from the siblings. Listed trainer for Billy Parker jr stable for many years when he had a big barn and owners like Herbie Montanez and his partners

I still remember being a groom at YR in the 80s and accepting catch paddocks when available in the evenings at MR. Merton kids were all teens  like me   Veronica used to hand out the saddle pads and do equip changes. She was adorable - chipmunk cheeks and a fantastic ass    Seems like yesterday

I don't know about the Filions or the Finns, but I do know that there is a driver in Wisconsin that sired four driving sons.
Jesse (Jay) De Long
The De Long Co.
Clinton, WI.
Jay has four sons that have driven in races. John being the most successful.
Jay De Long has four Sons, a Dad, an Uncle, a Sister, a Brother, and a Nephew that have all driven.
I near forgot Tabatha De Long. She has twenty driving wins to her credit.

I have heard a few stories about a driver in Canada named Ray McLean & his son Ray Jr. When asked by the locals who is the best driver the saying goes, Ray McLean when he is sober & second best would be Ray McLean when he was drunk. I heard the apple didn't fall far from the tree for his Son.
