It's a simple equation. Harness Racing contributes NOTHING to society. If gone tomorrow the only people who will notice are those in it. Steals money, defrauds the public, kills horses. "But it's all we know". Just a matter of time before most of the lights are shut. And since nobody in the game seems to want to clean it up, they deserve it. Walk down most streets and ask the public what The Hambletonian is.

It does contribute jobs but the point is spending that money on things the general public cares about would create just as many jobs.

so an "investment" in a football stadium that gets used on average 9 times per year is okay
but supporting an industry that races hundreds of days at each location and has a huge trickle down effect is bad

go take a high school economics class

I'm happy the state of New Jersey subsidizes the Meadowlands. I'm sure the "Garbage State" has wasted billions on real nonsense.

My example was roads, bridges, and schools. I do not think any major league sports venue should get taxpayer money. Most of those stadiums are used for other things.

what an asinine comment
some people actually enjoy the sport
some people enjoy caring for their horses
some people enjoy wagering on the sport
some people enjoy breeding horses

of course its not perfect and there is still cleaning up required but enough of painting the entire industry and everyone in it as evil and dark

That is 100% true, and a positive statement Brown Jug!   tmbz1

Unfortunately those that are not part of your "some" fucked things up bad for the horses, themselves, the industry, the gamblers and everyone you mentioned if not already mentioned!

There's nothing wrong with saving harness racing, but some things and people have to stop, and have to pay bad too, if not for just justice, then as a deterrent as well.

Do you agree?

yes trigger i do agree
unfortunately these issues and people were not dealt with swiftly and severely at the beginning and they have been allowed to fester and poison the industry

the ironic thing is that currently we have a somewhat level playing field for most of the big trainers, i.e using ped etc
but you can have a level playing field with no drugs as well but that entails constant policing and severe fines and suspensions
is it too late, likely but hopefully some progress will be made

The NFL is on welfare than too?

New York State is contributing $600 million in public funds, and Erie County is providing $250 million, for a total of $850 million in public funding towards the new Buffalo Bills stadium, which has a total cost of $1.4 billion

You missed a few points!

Please check on what New York City got as a result of this!  It's mind boggling!

You didn't mention who pays for the overrun costs on this?  Answer the Bills owner Terry Pegula out of his own pocket!

Who actually owns the Stadium!
