HOW MUCH DOES A TRACK MAKE ON HANDLE
« on: February 13, 2023, 10:26:43 AM »
Does anyone know what a track makes when the handle $3 million with 95% off-track vs $2.5 Million with 95% off-track?

The off track handle is different with each simulcast location they have different contracts around 3% which they split in some way with the horsemen. Tracks may skim off the top.  8% on live handle that they usually are splitting 50/50 with the horsemen.

Daily Racing Form had a story Pre-Pandemic after the California tracks went thru some negotiating with Internet Wagering companies.

Pretty much said that tracks get between 3-5% from off track. More or less depending on the need for your signal.

On track is setup by state with different takeout percentages for different types of bets. You will see some advertising that a pick 4 or other exotic wager is boasting a smaller 15% takeout.

Which this goes back to -- Why Doesn't harness racing industry ( maybe the USTA ) for an off track wagering company that could give tracks better rates -- to entice you can kick in a solid rewards program along with free programs and stop giving companies like TVG and Xpressbet, etc... the lionshare of the profits.   Take some of the proceeds to support a nightly show to help promote the business like a TVG or Fox's America Day at the Races.
