Racing Perspective :  He was a very talented driver - had great hands - won a lot of big races due to his talent....Also, at one point, made the decision to dope horses and cheat and win the wrong way...greed cost him his potentially great career....sad...b ut his choice...

Personal Perspective : His addictions got the better of him and we all should feel sympathy for that - he tried to go sober many times and just couldn't win the battle...I think most of us probably know friends, family or maybe just acquaintances that battle with addiction...we should pull for every one of them to beat their issues...Eric lost..and it's a sad story...

Thats sad , his wife Tonya would stand at the corner with the kids for the school bus here in New jersey before the big epo scandal. so sad.
