Why was this a no contest?
It had zero effect on the 3 leaders.

Was the 9 lame or did King wrestle for so long early in mile she soured?

not trying to be uncaring to drivers and horses but i agree the race should have stood
the 3 finishers were clear of any issues
i did not see any loose horses that could have been considered a threat
i think many times after a bad spill where a horse is loose or  they have to go past the downed horses again the race should immediately be called a no contest
if there was a superfecta that pool should have been refunded but all others should have paid out

A no contest is usually called when half the field does not finish. To say that with 3/8 of a mile to go no one could have finished third or fourth anyway is foolish. Owners have a right to earn, not just bettors. The issue at hand is that Sam King has no business out there. The horse was 85/1, steppy the whole way, and was trying to fall down 100 yards before he actually did. Why King was advanced to an "A" is beyond me. He needs to be knocked down to a "Q" for at least 60 days, then probationary license until the end of the year.

A reminder that racing horses can be very dangerous at times! Second big accident in a week. This is copied from Jackie Cantine.
Update on Jay Randall
Jay has 7 broken ribs on his left side and some are displaced. They may do surgery to put plates on them to help him breathe better. He has 2 broken ribs on the right side, but not displaced. He has some minor fractures where his ribs connect to his back spine that will heal on their own. He has a chest tube because he had blood in his chest. They are not worried about the brain bleed right now but will monitor it to make sure it doesn't get any worse. They are making him breathe in a tube to force him to expand his lungs so he doesn't get pneumonia. That's their biggest worry right now. He's in a lot of pain. He is in the ICU and they are going to keep him at least 3 days to monitor his breathing and brain bleed

have to agree with the others who said sam king's ability as an "A" driver looked pretty questionable out there...

yeah, that was tough to watch, it was clear the first horse that started it was in trouble
I assume randall was the one who went through the air and seemed to land on a sulky before hitting the ground
looked nasty for sure

Dosnt take a bad train or driver or drugs for a Accidents to happen it takes an incompetent state vet not to see it and scratch a horse when it’s lame I’ve seen too many state vets let horses go to post when they should’ve been scratched
