put up 100 and won 10 ... On a young trotter where anything can happen, they have to keep flat and hope someone does not break and wipe them out.  Even if you got your 25% target you win 4 out of 5 and break even.  Not a good long term strategy.

Exception ??  He broke a few weeks ago ...  recovered a ton but that bet would have been bye bye money.

Win ten of those $2 bets in a row and go home ahead one dollar.  What could possibly go wrong?

Its your money and you're obviously free to spend as you want, but as someone who sits behind these unpredictable steeds I'd strong  recommend against these types of bets.

One night a trainer told me while we're standing in the paddock the only way his horse gets beat tonight is if he falls down. Just hold on and steer him he tells me. Hes 1/9. I have a lapfull of horse and when the gate folds i make the lead easily, do 28 quarters, turn for home up 6 or 7 and at the 1/8 he spit the bit. He litterally just decided he was done. It took everything i had to hold on to 3rd to at least cover the bridge jumpers. The vet scoped him immediately and no blood. Nothing. He was fine. He just decided he was done for the night. I drove him the next week and he win easily.

The point is, in this game there is no such thing as a sure bet
