Racing A Horse Back After Three (3) Days ?
« on: November 09, 2020, 08:03:59 PM »
Wondering why a owner and/or trainer would raise a horse again with just 3 days off? I am not that knowledgeable in training to see the plus or minus in the move. Would it be because it is getting near the end of the year and some tracks closing? Any other reasons? Why are most of the horses given off six days before racing again? Is this done a lot and I just miss it? Any thoughts?

Bills are due.

Some horses are fine after a 3 day rest. There used to be 3 heats in the Little Brown Jug.

my trainer once talked me into racing a stake race at yonkers and come back the next day for a nyss at monticello. finished 3rd at yonkers and won at monti. turned horse out overnight and jugged her with fluids. fortunately horse was fine after the double header. thought he was crazy.

A pacer back in the 80's raced and win in the Invite at Scioto on a Saturday night, raced at a local fair on monday and set a track record, came back at same fair 2 days later on wed and beat the record he had just set, then win the invite again on the following Saturday. 4 races in 7 days. All wins. 100% true story.

Roger Hammer has been doing it for years, made a fortune doing it. Till they changed the fair rules. He used to race his good 3yr olds in overnights and then to the fairs.

Nicknamed the Roger Hammer rule.
