While a sale takes place before before racing dates. Would hate to make that judgement call buying 2 yr olds with the possibility of no summer dates. Should anyone be surprised it is IL horse racing and it's been a 25 yr plus cluster while the last decade applying the hammer to the nail. Slow and painful.

If no Arlington why would harness get summer dates? Careys aren't going to let winter/spring thoroughbred horses race then leave to another state to come back in the fall? Yeah that's not happening. Carey family has owned this track since 1909 they will not be sticking it to the thoroughbred horsemen. Along with messing up a handle that is better for the track.

I owned and bred my horses 24 years too soon.

My also rans would be undefeated with today's rats.

Finish in 53 or 52 and change today you win by 20.

I really don't think Hawthorne's surface is any slower than it was 18-20 years ago.

I see the worst case scenario playing out.

1.) No new track.
2.) T-Breds only at Hawthorne.
3.) Harness demoted to Fairmount for Spring/Summer meet.

You can see the increase in Illinois horses at Hoosier over the last month which I really don't understand.

Hoosier has way more stiffer competition to get a check much less win a race.

Hawthorne has shorter fields and weaker horses.

Why wouldn't these trainers ride Hawthorne out to the end and make as much purse money as they can?

Leaving Hawthorne ensures their rats of less income and harder miles on those sore joints.

I guess if you can get away with more cheating at Hoosier than Hoosier is the place to be.
