A CHANGE IS COMING....
« on: April 08, 2019, 03:38:49 PM »
Well it looks like a change in on the way for race day medications. Extensive studies are being done to follow the lead of Santa Anita, to outlaw all race day medications, including standardbreds. Get those resumes in order.

Bullshit! Most bleeders are due to virus or allergies. Why everyone on here thinks it’s drugs is wrong.

If you buggy boys weren't so greedy and have to over race and abuse your horses by racing every week an all breed medication policy could be adopted, BUT NO, you bastards have to drug your horses to race every week.

Never happen with Standardbreds !

Ontario has already announced a, "no medication race day policy".
Not sure of the official implementation date.

Most don't consider lasix a drug. More so it just  clouds or mask for other things that don't get picked up in a test. If the horse is that much a bleeder or has some issue to be a bleeder. Here's a idea...some time off?

Horses were bleeding long before EPO and other blood-builders of today. Going after lasix is not going to do a damn thing except hurt the horse. I myself have been on lasix for 7 years now and it helps me.

I agree but when I look at a program and every horse in the race is on lasix and i'm not talking about a bunch of old claimers, you wonder.I've been around horses 45 years and yes there have been bleeders forever but they didn't all bleed !!!

Other countries race without Lasix---1)New Zealand 2)Australia 3.ALL of Europe including Sweden,Norway,Denmark,Finland.France,Germany,Great Britain,Netherlands-where they have horse racing and harness 4)All of Asia--including the biggest of them all-Hong Kong-where they bet 20BILLION$ a year-no Lasix 5) South America 6) South Africa.
Ask yourself---how can they have conducted racing for so long and survived WITHOUT using Lasix?? Impossible if you talk to USA trainers-but they are obviously wrong.
LASIX IS A PERFORMANCE ENHANCER---not because it stops bleeding--but because it makes horses lighter
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/j.2042-3306.2006.tb05555.x    Please read--its the real reason for Lasix being used in 90% of tbreds and most Harness horses.

This is why-once you allow it--EVERYONE WANTS TO BE ON IT BECAUSE IF YOU ARE NOT YOU LOSE.

They practice much better techniques to keep a horses lungs clear in other countries--use a lot of nebulizers, fresh air, dust control, vaccinations etc --Lasix not needed or wanted as it gives a bad name to the public perception that horses have to and NEED to race on drugs.

If not lasix, they will treat their horses with far stronger meds. Most horses bleed to some extent. One thing I always made sure of was to treat my horse for bleeding whether he was on lasix or not. Breathing and bleeding for that matter and it took place throughout the week not just the day of. I also stayed on top of their blood after to build them back up. My horses always looked in top-notch shape.

I also used to think it had to do with less weight until I asked one of the most revered vets in the country and he laughed. He then went on to explain that if the reason Lasix is effective is reduction of weight, then every race would be won by the smallest and lightest horse. Try again.

Again with due respect Mike-but your revered Vet is a total idiot.I mean really I cant believe I have to explain this but here goes:
1)                        Horse  A before Lasix weight 1050 lbs---after lasix 1030 Races at 1030
                           Horse B weighs 1050 lbs-no Lasix--races at 1050
Horse A now has a 20 lb advantage in weight over B so all being equal in ability and racing luck and horse A beats horse B.
Its just physics Mike--it takes a greater effort to move 1050 lbs than it does 1030--maybe minor-but still a measurable distance.

2) Horses race at all kinds of weight--its their innate ability=heart size, muscle makeup, lung capacity, demeanor, gait etc that determines the winner.
That being said you dont see many tiny horses being Champions at the Meadowlands,or winning the triple Crown in TBreds.

Lasix is total BS-perpetrated upon us by cheats, and a great money spinner for those administering it--does 0 for the welfare of the horse and only blackens the perception the racing public has for horses having to race on drugs.

Get rid of it ASAP.
