If anyone doubts that a loose racehorse is one of the most unpredictable animals, showing a complete lack of common sense and self preservation, here is yet another example. The run head first into trees, rails, each other, into the grandstands, back into burning barns, etc. They are huge, and dumb as crap when it comes to protecting themselves. An upset, loose horse is pure energy without one ounce of comprehension. Their flight instinct apparently serves to completely overwhelm every sense, especially sight.

Very tragic and sad for all involved.

This is just another of many reasons this sport haha, should be done away with. Savage abuse of animals by the participants, why?  just to steal the almighty dollar.

Shame on all of you in this industry, how can you sleep at night?
i sleep like a baby and have rescued 2 horses from drowning. Risked my own life for an animal that never even made 5k lifetime. Find somehwere else to post you pedophile.

I know this was a topic earlier in the week ( couldn't find thread )

There was an article written by a Cincinnati reporter with more details on the incident.

Did MVR really race the last two races while the horse was dead in the pond and they pulled the horse out AFTER the last race...… They had the account of the divers having to be switched out ( due to water temps ) and it took them almost an hour to locate the horse in 10ft of water. They went on and finished the card, then pulled the horse out.....

The reporter included a statement from the P.R. person of MVR and said they were unable to comment further. The matter was going to be looked at by the OSRC.... Yeah, there's a dead end.... Their preoccupied with Scioto Downs grandstand issue.

WHY SHOULD THEY CLOSE DOWN?  YOU DONT SEE THEM CLOSE DOWN A STREET WHEN A DOG OR A SQUIRREL GETS HIT AND DIES. AND THEY ARE MOTHER NATURES CREATURES TOO ARE THEY NOT.   OH, THE HORSE MAKES ME MONEY, AND THAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT

WHAT THE FUCK . GET THE FUCK OVER IT ALREADY.

It is all about perception. The horse racing industry has finally come to the conclusion, they are no longer in charge. There are forces and power greater than racing, that are not friends of racing.
So, when a tragedy such as a horse drowns during a live race card, no matter what you do, anything short of stopping the card and placing all efforts on the poor animal will bite you in the ass.

The fact that they raced is hard to believe. The optics are horrible. To equate  a racehorse with a squirrel????Thats whats wrong with horse racing people don't care anymore.People have become self consumed long as it works for them(wonder where that comes from?)

The outrider at Miami Valley was not acknowledged adequately for her efforts.  She selflessly chased down the out of control horse and protected the downed driver  -   and when he broke free, she chased after him into that freezing water.  I've seen her go after other break-free horses in the past and she is one of the real good ones in that position!

Makes me wonder why you would have a 10 foot deep lnfield lake.  Are they hosting bass fishing tournaments in their free time?

Stuff like this does not happen much. I had bet a horse at Saratoga Tbreds many years ago making a winning move along the hedge and decided to take a swim instead at the furlong pole. Swam around for a bit then swam to shore. Won next out, at 1/3 the price it went off on swim day.

Pulling a sulky the odds for a happy ending are reduced. I guess we just came up with the one instance where a hub rail would have been useful.

Anyone that bitches and complains about cruelty to the animal should fucking go watch something else...it's what the we're bred to do...if they weren't racing they would have never existed in the first place(the horse itself)...they are bred to race not to be a farm animal....I don't think anyone pays a 5k-25k stud fee only to have their horse live in the pasture for its life....any horse that races was born to do so.

Why? You ask why? A horse is dead in the lake they have and spectators see him go in there and never come out. That’s why

Yes, shame on us for bringing these beautiful animals into the world.  Shame on us for treating them so good that it makes you liberals sick that we would spend so much money on their care and you cant redistribute that money to lazy people and illegals.
