I would say back when the Meadowlands was the place John Campbell was the master. Most talk about all the wins he had but never the drives that went backwards. He stiffed more horses and was in on more rigged races than anyone.

All of these stories remind me of one I had heard many years ago, but unfortunately time has caught up with me and I can't recall who told me or in what context it was. It was about a particular race at the Meadowlands in which the French connection (Lachance, Luc, and Dube) had all live shots, but unexpectedly they all took back to the rear of the field.  As two of the US drivers left and retook from one another with no pressure whatsoever, one yelled to the other "I guess the Canadian's are dead this race".  I heard this so many years ago, the situation I can't recall, but I do remember laughing my ass off when the story was told to me.
