Captain new stud fee 25k?
« on: October 30, 2018, 04:41:51 PM »
Seems a little out of line. Sweet Lou is ranked
#1 in average earnings per foal. Could also argue
With Captain standing at Hanover, he would get better
quality and deeper group of good mares. Sweet Lou
Stud fee at 12,500 ( half the price) seems like a bargain.

Should grab more of the better mares that where going to SBSW. Looks like Hanover trying to make up for the loss of SBSW. Probably fills his book but it's not a slam dunk for a mid size breeder.

No thank you. I’m deciding between Sweet Lou, $12,500 or the best value around Always A Virgin for $4,000

EC..looking into a first crop which I'm sure he was given many many good mares to succeed first out but did he? 99 went to the sale first crop and if your looking at a 25k stud fee he had 28 sell for 25k or under. Another 22 sell between 25k-47k and for a breeder that's still a loss or maybe a breakeven. Know take the overall 113 foals and he had 83 starters that's 73%. His 2yr old winners 50% and a winner at 2:00 47%. He had 9 winners of over 100k and that's 8%. You can't gauge much from 1 crop but when you get the better mares production should be higher? His best 2 crosses with 5 or more mares Camluck and Dragon Again mares seem the best two. Hardly what your looking for....while crosses with ROCKNROLL Hanover(11), Western Hanover(11), and Western Ideal(18) of the 40 just 1 over 100k. Capt Ahab. When you go to the well with all that Western Hanover blood and come up close to empty. Not good! Definitely not good. 25k way over priced!

First crop was good but not fantastic. The breeders are out of their mind. In 3-4 years he won't do as well as Bettors Delight. Hanover, Myron and company are on drugs.

Hanover guys so crazy they been the best in the business for decades. tmbz1

AA..Bettors Delight for all the years at stud has been a proven sire year after year. While being moved around time and time again. Has had a decent value stud fee even for the middle guys not wanting to pay the 20k of SBSW. I know they tend to be small especially the fillies but you would have to ask more a pacing guy what there rep is training down. He is a very good sire by the numbers.

AA there where 6 Capt's cross with BD. Of the 6 four of them started and the highest earner was 10k. So nothing there on a small sample size.

The Captain raced against one of the weakest classes of 3yo pacers in harness racing history... overrated his entire life.

I think what we might be forgetting is the syndication is large with CT and there are a lot of mares they book to him. However what a better way to raise his value for the ones holding his breeding shares so they can put them on the market and sell at a big dollar amount. He best produce next year at 3 and again at 2. Tony and Myron can't buy all of them at 6 figure prices.
