Mohawk Thursday
« on: October 25, 2018, 07:00:34 AM »
Race#6-#8 Embolden 9-2 ML Debuts for trot man BB, and gets Henry to steer instead of Mario, a double positive. Benoit generally likes to see what hes working with on a new Twitter in the barn & this one has potential.

Race#10-#6 Lucklst Bluegraas 8-1 ML Debuts for CA off the claim & although taken out of a 12k, first start is in a conditioned class. #3 will take all the money along with #2 first start in from the maritimes, he shows speed but hes lazy gotta be picked at etc.

Qualifier of Moreau horse in first was monster compared to what it looks like on paper. Big head wind that day in stretch.

question,

every time i see a horse change barns to some of the big barns like auciello or mareau i see the horses first time out are headstrong and wanting to go for the 1st half mile then are on their hands and knees for the wire. I wonder why this is?

good example here in the finale as drury was see sawing up the backstretch

Fresh off the claim, new barn, new prerace and generally the driver is making sure they're tuned in before the gate folds.

Carmen tries to get back his money as quick as possible. Most are generally cooked after their first 5 or 6 races.

It might also be that taking a recent claim to the top is a sign of faith. If a horse is live (the connections think the horse is probably a winner), it keeps the horse out of traffic and avoids any unforeseen roadblocks to a win.

Usually what I see when a horse that is new to a barn is imo juiced, is a move to the top out of trouble, quick fractions, then unusually extraordinary stamina (an unexpected second wind). Auciello's horse Thursday had all these except the stamina. Expect a big performance next out at 3/5.

I only use Moreau/auciello etc for two races off a claim when they run big in the first off claim race. There's usually some regression after that though in a few instances a horse will maintain the off claim form. Lately some Moreau/auciello horses have been performing better 2nd or even 3rd off claim leaving acquaintances of mine to contend that they aren't getting the magical elixer to the 2nd or 3rd try following claim.
