T BRED PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS A COUPLE OF STEPS AHEAD OF THEIR BUGGY BOY RED HEADED STEP CHILDREN

OCEANPORT – It could be an historic Memorial Day at the Jersey Shore.

The tentative date set for Monmouth Park to open the William Hill Sports Book and begin accepting the first wagers on individual sporting events outside Nevada is Monday, May 28, track officials said.

The announcement Tuesday came a day after the Supreme Court of the United States ruled favorably in New Jersey's bid to legalize sports betting in the state.
Drazin has said there is nothing stopping Monmouth Park from opening its sports book before the legislation is complete, nor has he been told by Gov. Phil Murphy or Senate president Steve Sweeney that they would stop the track

Monmouth Park and William Hill have spent around $2.5 million on the William Hill Sports Bar over the past four years, which will quickly be converted into the sports book. William Hill, which gets half the proceeds of sports betting at Monmouth Park, is contractually obligated to spend $5 million to build out the sports betting infrastructure in the coming years.

Fans will be able to bet on anything they would be able to wager on in Las Vegas, including the NBA Finals, set to begin on May 31.

Hold On Monmouth......... .............. not quite yet!!

What is the difference with state run OTB , selling the product of racetracks and horsemen. And, team owner's demanding a piece of the action when a sports book sells their product to profit?

Is it possible the state pays Jeff Gural and his investors their 110% back for capital improvements when their lease is up? The state may want to either give the sports book to someone else to operate or take control themselves.

It won`t do a thing for horse racing! It will probably help to end it. One more thing for them to promote and take away from a dead  racing game.

JEFF AND JOE WEIGH IN

With sports wagering imminent in New Jersey and potentially
on the fast track to implementation in New York, we reached out
to Meadowlands operator Jeff Gural and SOA of NY President Joe
Faraldo for comment on how sports wagering would affect racing
at The Meadowlands and Yonkers Raceway.
“It means I will probably break even or make a small profit, but
it does not solve the horse shortage or lack of purse money,” said
Gural, who made no mention of additional funds making its way
into the purse account, though he has been taking a loss in recent
years to keep the track’s lucrative stakes program in place.
Gural added that he expected the Thoroughbred horsemen
to ask for more dates and that could have an impact on the Fall
harness season. Additionally, Meadowlands CEO Jason Settlemoir
mentioned on Post Time with Mike and Mike that he is expecting
to be ready to take wagers by the start of the 2018 NFL season.
Faraldo had the following comments:
“New Jersey will be first up to bat, probably by June. The SBOA
of NJ can better speak to this right now. They will set precedent for
what, if anything, will go into purses. In New York we may be able
to carve out something for racing to secure us from more competition,
and from track and other operators looking to cultivate other
revenue streams to enhance their bottom lines at the expense of
racing. Unless purses are cut in by legislation or contract at least
from sports wagering done at tracks, OTBs or ADWs, I do not see
anything positive coming from this but rather only negatives.”
Faraldo added that he was unsure about how quickly the government
in New York might move on sports wagering at this time.
