Meadowlands Casino ?
« on: March 19, 2026, 10:17:20 AM »
Looks like Atlantic City is all in on the Meadowlands and Monmouth Park to get Casino's ? 10 years ago they were all against it but with NYC getting 3 Casino's the game has changed.

you could not be more wrong

I am not saying the referendum in less than 8 months fails--but Atlantic City has lobbied against any casinos outside their monopoly....for 50 years, successfully

Didn't Gural try for the casino years ago?

It's more than likely too late for this to happen in Gural's lifetime!

Same in Illinois.

Too late for both states to get onboard when the states around them already have slots.

He's going to get a casino this time. But it will take time to build. If it's confirmed that he gets a casino, will he increase the purses right away? He needs to do something to get the better horses back.

Its not even on the ballot right now. And it requires a constitutional amendment to get on it. Then it has to pass the vote then it needs to get written in.
Still very far away from even thinking of timing of purse structure

He's not going to keep fighting if it's not on the ballot, he's gonna bail. State won't care they get the land back. Sure they will replace it with something that will generate interest.

I think a lot of this comes down to two things.....one, the actual referendum itself. Is going to be a casino "outside AC" or specifically a casino "at the Meadowlands. This has been defeated each and every time, easily by the way, because of the strength of the casino lobbying, and also because of NIMBY. The casino lobbying will never go away. But, what happens if one of those casinos is the chosen one for the Meadowlands? LOL. The second issue, which is a new issue now, and very political, is whether or not this is going to be a casino at the Meadowlands AND Monmouth Park, or just the Meadowlands. Drazin is now trying to negotiate with Gural in case he doesn't get on the referendum. Sarlo will be be the guy who carries the ball to the Governor. Let's see what the ball looks like.

I'm guessing Gural will get his casino. It makes sense for New Jersey.

Not on ballot

https://share.google/5qqvy79iYnpMJF7ZX

The actual latest date possible a public referendum can be added to the ballot is July 27. Investors in Atlantic City will fight this to the death.

it still could happen

but it is amazing how many people here on this site have been saying for 10 years now that "Savior" will have rose petals thrown at his feet before he walks and that a casino is a foregone conclusion

NJ doesn't work that way...it looks like a long shot now

Facts: Right now 20 million in state welfare props up racing. Only reason the industry is interested is they need the free money to survive, not just in NJ. Yet these same people will attack Gural if he ever did get his way and accuse him of pocketing most of the money for himself, again the welfare indoctrination by which harness racing survives. Now add the investment that has been made since the 70s into AC. Not only will this weigh even more on them, it also affects the city around it. And at what point does someone say enough, how many casinos can there be? Three more in NYC that will open within a few years. They're not going to satisfy all involved in AC by offering a partnership either since there's only one being offered. A few million in kickbacks each year isn't going to work either. If Gural gets his way it will be his crowning achievement. If he doesn't....what's next for M1???
