When Goshen held The Hambletonian the winner had to WIN two heats.
When Lord Jim Won The Hambo at Goshen he was 4th, 1st, 2nd, and 1st.

Are you referring to two heats on a hot sunny afternoon?
If so, Have you ever heard of The Little Brown Jug?

Would you ever give a horse to Burke, Alagna, Takter, or Pelling knowing full well that they have in the past, and most likely will in the future race their top horses two heats in the hot afternoon heat?

LOL These guys are clueless Ford,  Multiple heat racing is the core of Standardbreds, too bad only the Jug is left.  I still remember the Kentucky Futurity and even the Confederation Cup in Canada which used to be raced multiple heats for 3 year olds. There was a FFA in Chicago once upon a time where a horse named Alix went NINE heats.

Any other famous heat races anyone can remember?

County fairs in Ontario often had a day of racing during the fairs run. Generally consisted of an eight race card made up of four double dashes.

The Vermont State Fair did the double dash thing, it was interesting to note that you could bet the second dash with full knowledge of how it went the first time and still find value.

I miss Rutland and Rochester...

Hambo multiple heats was tough. I think it was Steve Lobell who never was effective after 4 heats in the Hambo.

Right you are Old Guy!
Steve Lobell won the 4th heat for Bill Haughton in 1976
Back at the barn he collapsed and nearly died.
That marked the end of any one horse going 4 heats in The Hambo.
Dean Hoffman wrote a real nice 8"x10" coffee table book about the Hambletonian.
"America's Trotting Classic"
Stories, results, and pictures from each year from 1926 to 1999.
Bet most here don't know that Calumet Farm was the breeder/owner of the 1931 winner.
Ya Ya Ya I know and you don't care either.

I cannot wait until the government handouts are ended and the industry has to attract actual customers.
ONE OF THE BEST STATEMENTS EVER POSTED ON PLOP. MAN I JUST HOPE THE GOVERNMENT PULLS THE PLUG AND THE TRACKS AND HORSEMEN ONLY RACE FOR WHATEVER PURSES ARE GERERATED THROUGH THE BETTING WINDOWS. THEN AND ONLY THEN WILL HARNESS RACING START TO BUILD FROM THE GROUND UP AGAIN. THESE BIG STABLES WITH DEEP POCKET OWNERS WILL DISAPPEAR FASTER THAN A CRIMINAL IN A DRIVE BY SHOOTING ON COTTAGE GROVE AVENUE.
