Have you ever seen a horse of the year come back the following year and fall from grace this fast?
maybe the expectations were way too high?
maybe the "irrational exuberance" placed on the horse made it virtually impossible to live up to?
maybe he wasn't that great to begin with?
maybe the industry and most of the fans were looking for a superstar and picked the wrong horse?
there have plenty of 2yos that had great seasons only to have great expectations at age 3 burdened on them
McClure turned in an awful drive, changing his mind at least 3x--that didn't help--but did anyone consider he was not going to win anyway despite the drive by McClure? Many of you are reacting like he was 3 wide on all three turns and lost by a nose.
this is why voters are reluctant to give HOY honors to a 2yo--often when they turn age 3-the rest of the class grows up and end up equaling or surpassing the 2yo champ( see Jate Lobell)
He is a Ontario Gold Series horse who had a great year at age 2 who was unfairly and ridiculously labeled the next Niatross.
I doubt he leaves Ontario if he ever races again.
