BIG: Late 70's Roosevelt Raceway, by around 6 or 7 lengths over a Steinbrenner trotter (can't remember his name), by Archie's Boy (really nice Dream of Glory trotter).

SMALL: Mid 80's at Meadowlands.  My trotter (Future Pro, another solid trotter, by Florida Pro) with Benny Webster on him breaks out of the gate and recovers to catch the field and winds up winning by a nose, with racecaller saying something to the effect "I don't believe it!"  Didn't have a penny bet on him either.  My favorite win picture with Benny having a huge shix-eating grin.

As the ow/tr/driver smallest margin of victory?  A dead heat.
As the ow/tr/driver largest margin of victory?  I didn't look back, but I didn't hear anyone behind me.

A little story from fifty plus years ago.
I am a teenager racing at the fairs.
I go back to the barn bitching that I won, but that the judges put up the home town boy as the winner.
I bitch like a spoiled kid.
The next week the presiding judge (Orin Baker)  comes up to me and says "young man I hear you think you won last week".
I say "I sure did. I was looking right back at Kenny James when we crossed the wire".
Mr Baker "That 's right. You beat Mr. James across the wire, but your horse didn't beat his horse across the wire".
Then he shows me the photo.
Kenny James is driving a big horse(King Selka) hooked way out at the end of the shafts.
I am driving a real small horse hooked in short.
So yes I beat the other driver, but his horse beat mine by a nose.
I have never argued with any results since!

I am just an old horse trainer still going around in circles. Sometimes Fast. Sometimes Half-Fast.

  • Sweet: There very well might be a Twilight Zone spot happening on the backstretch at Scioto Downs, what the heck is happening that is spooking the hell out of the horses and making the drivers look like drunks  ngc3
