I am new to horseplop..I really enjoy the banter between everyone on here. I came to love harness racing through my Dad and Grandfather who was a small time owner in Ohio. My Dad is going through stage 4 cancer right now and reading this forum takes my mind off of his daily trials and tribulations. I take the week off of work for the brown jug every year and Ihave since I was 7 years old and I turn 50 this year. I live 5 minutes from the fairgrounds. As far as Karl being the best trotter of all time.. he's not even close. I think Mike says that to get a rise out of everybody. For my money the best trotter I ever witnessed was Peace Corps. I was just a kid and I asked my Grandfather why I could not bet on her and he said you'll see. She was barred fom betting. Her track record for trotters stood for many years in Delaware until Pine Chip broke it. For whatever it's worth when I met the greatest driver of all time John Campbell he said the best horse he ever sat behind was Mack Lobell
-
Welcome aboard JT. I remember Peace Corp broke stride at Delaware, got way back and Campbell
patiently got him together and not only caught up but won. Delaware not 'NEARLY' as cool as it once
was. The town and the fair and the race,
-
Yes bitter truth with the higher sire stakes purses the triple crown races have lost some of there luster. Like Gabe Prewitt and I know he tries to support the sport but why you would schedule Kentucky sire stakes finals a few days before jug week makes no sense

It's all over this forum. I'm not on here to get into drama.. I'm here to have factual discussions about harness racing. I paid you a compliment saying I respect some of your opinions and that's how you respond. Just Wow.

What are you 5 years old responding to a new person on this forum with name calling like a child. No wonder most people on here don't like you very much.

Welcome JT to the group. I too, love harness racing. I was a owner in the early 80's with four cheap claimers. Didn't make any money, but had some great times. My best advise to you is to "pick your spots"with who you chat with. I'm a Jewish kid"" from Brookyn who likes this site. I've seen the anti-semetic comments but just scroll by. There are all sorts of folks on here. Trainers, Drivers, Grooms, Owners, and fans. I'm not sure who's what, but I do love reading many of the comments. So have fun and enjoy "Horseplop" for what it is. Prayers for you Dad.

Oh, you're a new person. Well, I wasn't aware of that. My apologies. Serious question..How long will I have to tolerate your mental deficiencies until I can call you out on them. I misplaced my Horseplop rule book and am not up to date on how to treat a new douchebag.

Welcome to horseplop JT!
Isn't it SAD that some people have to "BULLY" others here because they can't agree to disagree on a simple blog known as horseplop!
Keep up your outstanding work on horseplop!

Well Mike any respect of your opinions on here has quickly vanished. I told this forum that I come on here to get a break from my Dad's cancer treatment and you respond with no class at all. What a heartless loser

Some people don't take compliments well. Even I tried to make a real serious comment on another thread, and I got the exact same treatment (a comment with 'ZERO MALICE' intended)!

JT, me and my Dad (Rest in peace) "cut our teeth" chasing winners at Monticello Raceway in the late 70's. The track had big crowds, great drivers, and great fun. Now a shell of what it was, "The Mighty M" is in pretty bad shape. A lot of the tracks I visited over the years have gone the way of the Dodo. Liberty Bell, Foxboro, Rockingham, Roosevelt.....all gone to seed. But I still love racing.

I grew up going to all the small county fairs in Ohio watching my Grandparents horses race but I have spent a lot of time at Scioto the last 35 years..They are making improvements but it is a shell of its former self

Isn't it great my first post on Here has you 2 going back and forth as usual. Mike apparently you don't read to well either. I said in the thread about Karl that I mentioned in my first post that he won't isn't and won't be remembered as the greatest trotter ever. Listen I think he's a great horse and I'd love to own him but I can think of 10 off the top of my head that are better and will be remembered as better.

Please continue to spread the false narrative that you can't prove!
As said earlier on a previous post, your reading and comprehension skills have a lot to de desired!
Please keep up the good working by continually embarrassing yourself here!
Thanks for playing!

He deserves everything he gets here JT! Please don't forget this important statement of fact!
All horseplop sees is a 'WHINY' "CRYBABY" that has no life and gets his "JOLLIES" here by acting the way he does!
SAD, ISN'T IT!

You just don't get it. You can't compare 10 that have completed their career to a horse that hasn't. I am sure no one was saying Bulldog Hanover was one of the greatest when he was THREE!!!!!

That is a fair point but even if he goes on to win his remaining starts this year and retires which he will and would be dumb not to he still isn't in the top 10

You don't comprehend to well do you! I'm not worried about it--it's only horseplop! I don't lose any sleep over it! Actually, it is FUNNY/SAD or perhaps both! I'm not quite sure!

There is a lot of things that could happen. Everyone thought triple crown winner Marion Marauder was headed to the breeding shed.

That's true but there is just more money to be made going to stud and I don't think he is that sound. In no way could he race on a smaller track. It takes everything Yannick has to keep him together on a mile oval. Time will tell. See this is what a civil conversation can look like lol

One loss this year doesn't doesn't destroy his resume. Takter will figure him out. I was there and I can't be sure because I wasn't sitting behind him but I don't think soundness is an issue, I think the horse is interfering somewhere when asked for speed. I could be 100% wrong but that is what I think. I wasn't crazy about the drive but sometimes a horse forces you to drive a certain way. However, as bad as everyone thinks he looked warming up and racing, he trotted the fastest time in his life and I think if he gets straightened out, he will trot in 48 and a piece and end his career as the greatest trotter ever.

When you trip out as the 3/5 favorite and only win by a length or so--that proves he is NOT the "greatest ever"
he only has another 4 or 5 races left-so time is running out

final times?
is that why you think Sebastian K was great?

Greatness in my opinion is measured by continually beating the best of your era. I thought Sebastian K was great because he not only destroyed the best here but also did it in Europe.
-
In all fairness to you, you could have said "greatess 3yo trotter" of all time--but you didnt
times have changed-they dont race as 4 or 5 yos anymore
but here is a brief list of better trotters....
Nevele Pride
San Pail
Arch Madness
Fools Goal
Moni Maker
Mack Lobell
Varenne
Ourasi
Peace Corp
Sugar Cane Hanover
Jorky
Ideal Du Gazeau
Mr. Muscleman
there are several international trotters i did not mention
-

That is why in my original post I stated Peace Corps is the greatest ever.. multiple breeders crowns Almost 6 million in earnings and she dominated here and Europe. The only place she failed was in the breeding shed
-

Nevele Pride won 57 of 67 races--is that not continuing to beat horses from your era?
Mack Lobell won 71 of 94 races--does that not qualify?
-
I think that "greatness" is somewhat generational. Every era has some super horses. I remember when Silk Stockings went 157.3 in the first Monticello Classic 1 in 1975. I was there. An amazing moment. Many called her the greatest filly of all time. Today, $4000 claimers go two seconds faster.

You're making a stupid argument. You are comparing horses that have completed their career with a horse who has not. Since I know how stupid you are, why not wait until he is done racing and then if you're right, you can bash me and bash the Hambo winner that has only lost twice in his career.
-
Karl only has 4 or 5 races remaining
even if he wins them all--he wont even come close to "the greatest"
-
Thank you Swank you can never have to many prayers.

FYI, Sugarcane Hanover did not even race in the Hambletonian. He was prepped for the later races of the year which he won easily! John Simpson Sr. was "having fun" with the horse and did not want to sell him! At this period in time, the Europeans wanted a very good North American trotter in Europe and Simpson Sr. accommodated them. Sugarcane was sold for $ 2 million to Scandanavian interests! The horse was a well-regarded sire in Europe!
Can you do this with top North American horses today and what would their value be if this could be done?
Karl and any others you can think of!

All I have to say is Muscle Hill.
Muscle Hill was purchased by Tom Pontone for $55,000 at the Harrisburg Yearling Sales in 2007.[1] He showed great promise as a two-year-old winning the Peter Haughton Memorial and 2008 Breeders Crown Two Year Old Colt Trot. He went on to win $817,301 and eight of nine races and was named the United States 2-Year Old Colt Trotter of the Year.[2]
In 2009 he went on to win all of his races as a three-year-old, including the Hambletonian, the Canadian Trotting Classic, the American-National, the World Trotting Derby, the Kentucky Futurity and the Breeders Crown. In The Hambletonian he won in 1:50.1 which was a stakes record and tied the fastest time for a trotter of any age at The Meadowlands.[1] He won by six lengths, the largest winning margin in The Hambletonian since Mack Lobell in 1987.[3] At the end of 2009 he retired to stud with career prize money of $3,273,342, and having won the last 20 of the 21 races in which he competed.[4] The $2,456,041 that he won in 2009 was a record for a single season for either a trotter or a pacer.[2] He was voted United States Harness Horse of the Year for 2009, the first time a trotter had won the award for an undefeated season.[3] He never came close to defeat in his twenty wins

GOOD EVENING LIL MIKEY,
More LIES, SO SAD!!
-
I think as far as THE "Greatest Ever" is concerned, none of us will ever live to see that one. Too bad guys!
So far as the filth is concerned, when I was young, maybe 14-15 in the sixties, some of my friends and I decided to have a cursing contest. most dirty words without
repeating and originality counted. This has nothing to do with any person but is rather just food for fodder....so the winner was....You God-damned cock-sucking mother
fucking, Jew Bastard son of bitchin' latrine-diggin' Watusi Mau Mau ass-wipe. Feel free to use any part. I didn't win!
-
Karl only has 4 or 5 races remaining
even if he wins them all--he wont even come close to "the greatest"
If 4 or 5 more races is true...then without any question or argument...your second statement is true.
-
All I have to say is Muscle Hill.
'nuff said!

I loved Muscle Hill his record speaks for itself. I wish he would have raced as a 4 year old but I understand why he didn't. Had he raced as an older horse and dominated like he did at ages 2 and 3... He would be my GOAT. Just not enough starts to be my GOAT

He had what, 21 or 22 starts? Today that's a full career, LOL.

I think he was 20 wins in 21 starts. I realize that's a full career nowadays... but I'm just old school I guess.im not saying race them 4 days a week like the clegg's do. It just goes back to a point I made earlier that it's a shame the greatest horses retire after 3 years old.
-
Like when Artsplace raced as a 4 year old and went undefeated and still went on to have a great career as a sire
-

It's the business/economic model today. It's broken too. Another time discussion. MH was a very serious, dominant, did it easy, very talented trotter. Berndt Lindstedt was extremely impressed with him and paid him many compliments.
-
You geniuses with this theory that a horse has to race a certain amount of starts to be considered great is ridiculous. I guess Somebeachsomewher e was just a run of the mill creature.

This time you put words in my mouth. I never said Karl or Muscle Hill were not great because of lack of starts. I say to be considered the GREATEST dominating in the aged ranks at age 4 or 5 is a factor for me. Just my 2 cents. And not to beat a dead horse we don't know if Karl will race after this year.

Fine, SBSW didn't race at 4. However, if you put 100 REAL horsemen in a room, more than 3/4 would say he was the greatest pacer of all time.

The insurance to keep them on the track is very expensive

Artsplace was age 4 in 1992--times have changed
also, he was a champion 2yo and also undefeated at age 4
at age 3--ran into a Robinson juiced Precious Bunny-who kicked his ass all year
some say Artsplace was sick at age 3

SBSW only raced 18 times, mostly against Ontario Sire Stakes Gold Series competition
so yes, he wasnt even close the best ever

You're a fucking moron. He raced in the NA Cup. Meadowlands Pace, Confederation Cup, The Bluegrass, The Messenger, The Breeders Crown, The Burlington

possibly 3yo GOAT
but not up there with Mack Lobell or others on my list who raced at age 4 or 5
you cannot extrapolate a great 3yo and say he would also have been just as great at age 4 or age 5

More idiots with this requirement of racing at 4 or 5 to be considered the greatest. You are the moron--most of those were in Canada and the ones you didnt mention were vs OSS Gold
MacGrath protected him, babied him to be undefeated and he failed.
The Bluegrass he was seeded as to avoid Art Official and he was extremely lucky to nose out Shadow Play in The Messenger
He lost the M1 Pace at 1/9 after Art Official arguably had a tougher trip
all other races were vs OSS
and he skipped the end of the year race at Dover for no excuse other than MacGrath knew he wasnt that great and a loss would have devastated the entire Canadian fan base

Hear hear...how about one that raced multiple years...I remember reading Moni Maker was over 90% 1-2-3 lifetime...with over 100 lifetime starts. Varenne was probably about 95% with about 75 lifetime starts.

No horse comes close to Bret Hanover..68 starts with 62 wins, 5 places and 1 show with 3 consecutive Horse of the year awards. In your words, nuff said.

That is why I always mention Peace Corps.. Moni Maker is the only trotter that made more then her and she had way more starts.. plus Peace Corps routinely raced against the boys and destroyed them moni maker won 67 of 109 starts.. Peace Corps won 62 of 93 starts with 81 times in the top 3

As far as pacers go its a tie for me between Bret and Niatross for the GOAT.

Moni Maker frequently raced against the boys--winning two Nat Ray's
not sure who raced vs males more--but Moni Maker was better than you give her credit for

Actually Mike, I think Bret was 62-0, Frank Erwin on the other hand was 0-5-1.. Anyway, aside from your sometimes SALTY rhetoric, I agree with you a vast majority of the time. Evidently yours and my wheelhouse are about the same. Loved those 60's and 70's. tmbz1 tmbz1 tmbz1

I forgot about True Duane. He was only 3 when he beat 4 year old Bret. That race was out in California. It was a mile and an eighth. Boring was just a kid then. Any other year, True Duane would have been tops but he ran into Jerry Silverman and Romeo Hanover. I know one thing, those True Duane colts were racehorses. Tough to break though.

I had a True Duane colt. Named him True North. Just average, maybe A-3. I also had a nice colt by Cold Front. Remember him. I raced the off season at Hollywood park with Valarro, Vladingham, and Bob Farrington. That was a beautiful track until it became impossible to get to your car at night. What a shame? Do you happen to remember one of the fastest mares of the time? Her name was Maida Million. Eddie Cobb drove her and a few for me before he was forced to move The Ivanhoe Stable, which became The Nev-Cal Stable out West for one too many severe tote drops at Yonkers and Roosevelt. Jimmy Cruise Sr. had a great over-nighter Frank T. Ace.
Also, I just love the guys on here who think harness racing began at the Meadowlands. Well this one made 3million and this one made 6million like that means something. Well in his day, Bret, Horse of the year 3 times fell short of a million by $100,000. Oh, and by the way, Bret, True Duane, Adios Vic, et al, really raced on hay and oats. Food for thought for phonies like Ronnie and Jimmy and a plethora of others who deserve nothing less than an asterick and perhaps crucifixion. Let us not forget our previous Trainer of the Year, Jen Bongiorno, and some of the dummies on Plop who believe she really trained horses. Well where is she now? Maybe she stepped on a rusty nail and had to retire? As I have said on previous posts, she didn't know which end of the horse the shit came out of. Sorry, I am just in education mode tonight.

There are some who think that Maida Million could have beaten Cardigan Bay at Freehold the day he went over a million dollars in earnings.

Now I get it Dougie, you are just another whinning Landing Field Person. Grow up and quit with the God's Chosen People card and the "I'm just here for fun" BS.

I have no idea what your talking about kooter. I don't know you nor do I care what you post.

JT, we are in "Fair Season" here in Maine now!
Yeah I'd seen that on one of your previous posts. There are fairs going on all over Ohio now. They pretty much go all summer long. For my wife's 50th birthday we did a 3 week trip to the northeast and we stayed in Old Orchard Beach for 5 nights. Great little beach town by Portland. We hit up Scarborough Downs on one afternoon while we were there. This was a couple years before they closed down What part of the state do you reside?
-
JT. I am in Kennebunkport. Old Orchard Beach is a great area. We love living here. Sadly Scarborough is closed. New homes and condos are already there. If you both ever get up here again, let me know. Lobster rolls are on me!

Ahhh where the Bush family used to vacation. It is a great area In the 3 weeks we couldn't fit in everything we wanted to see but OOB was where we parked the car and chilled out for some days. I would definitely take you up on the lobster rolls. I've been to 46 of the 50 states and Maine is a great one. Next time we go up there we want to get up to Bar Harbor. If you ever make it to the jug hit me up. I'll get ya some good Midwestern fair food.

Thanks JT!

And Niatross did it carrying around Clint Galbraith. I was foolish enough to bet against him in his 1st start at Vernon. I bet on Mr Ray Scott with Anne Wheeler.

Hey Bernie I've got many friends and family members that are atheist just like you.. so I suppose I should tell them that it's a shame that they are going to burn in hell one day for their lack of faith... but I don't do that. To each his own, live and let live.. but I guess it makes you feel like a BIG person by belittling someone else's beliefs. Yeah how dare someone offer me something that brings comfort during a trying time. To quote Dan Aykroyd from one of my favorite movies spies like us.. "We mock what we don't understand." So in other words piss off!
-
Your childish fascination with an invisible being is quite amusing. Anybody who quotes a movie as evidence for their position is an idiot.
-
so I suppose I should tell them that it's a shame that they are going to burn in hell one day for their lack of faith... but I don't do that.
You just did. Take it to the other forum please. This is just as bad as Gaagoots rantings
-

The quote pertains to lots of things in life.. it is no evidence of my beliefs. I'm not going to cram my faith down your throat so keep your atheist thoughts out of mine. Last time I checked this is a horse racing forum not one on religion So agree to disagree don't be a dick and make fun of others opinions.
-
You just did. Take it to the other forum please. This is just as bad as Gaagoots rantings
Somebody offered me prayers and I thanked him case closed. I don't want to get in a religious conversation with anyone, and I would not have if dipshit didnt feel the need to have to pitch his 2 cents in
-
I simply use the ignore button. To each their own and move on. Next.
-
What's all this religions banter got to do with harness racing? Prayers! I'm a George Carlin guy, but if I had to choose, I'll take the 72 Virgins!
-
Grandstand, you are right. Not worth getting into a 'pissing" contest with folks you don't know or will ever meet. JT seems like a nice guy. His dad is sick, and many just sent kind thoughts or "prayers" for his health. The amazing amount of "venom" spewed over this is just sad. I let nothing said to me ever bother me. Folks can write whatever they want. I couldn't care less.
