Friday-Yonkers-Big$$ Races
« on: June 30, 2023, 05:04:46 AM »
Only time I like to bet Yonkers is with big $$ races.  Tonight there could be some "value"..
5th Race-Sadie Hanover is on a roll and showed she can handle the 1/2 at Freehold.  I like Secret Volo in here, but don't see how Sears gets into this race with a trailer on the pole??

6th Race-Lisa Lane was flying in the stretch.  Using on top and bottom in exactas and straight win.

7th Race-There should be a stampede into the 1st turn with two trailers.  Weak field for a "Messenger" (not one of the 10 finalists in the NA Cup is in here!!) Box Seven Colors, American Fling and Captain Batboy in the exacta.

8th Race-Yonkers Trot-Kierkegaard K has the fastest 3 yo trotting mile, so far, this year.  While his stablemate (Up Your Deo) was a lot faster last week, he also was much less handy on the turns..AND he has a really bad driver (sorry Ake..you are a great trainer but almost all of your horses would perform better with others in the handholds!!) So we will go with Kierkegaard K straight win.

Ake’s training ability usually outweighs his driving ability.

IN MY OPINION He has driven plenty of good horses badly, and cost one of his really top all-time horses the Hambo with an all-time "horror" drive in the 2018 elimination (Six Pack).  He had the best horse in that elimination.. all he had to do was finish in the top 5 to qualify and he made a horrible mess of the race.  No reason for him to drive except for the first few races for his 2 year olds or if he is trying to suss out a problem with one of his horses and needs to be behind him/her to figure it out in a race.

Wow Forgot how atrocious that drive was. All those breakers and managed to get blindswitched  only to have a few more break then hooks wheels. Way worse than when he drove off the track up by 3 with Resolve.

That 2008 race looked like a county fair track where every driver was on their first start.

If belmont canceled, surprised yonkers wouldn't. Purses way too high and track has to pay it.

He has Semi Tough, San Domino and Hellabalou in to go on Monday; he generally doesn't play much in the NY Sires stakes (which give many of the horses entered in the races tonight 1/2 mile track experience to see if they can cut it), so that may be why his barn doesn't have the power for these specific races (even though they are not NY races, but ARE on the 1/2 mile.)

Only win for Burke in the Messenger was in 2014 with All Bets Off; Alagna has won 3 times in past 8 years with: Stay Hungry, Racing Hill and Revenge Shark.
