Exactly why I believe they can’t really dome down hard on cheats. A guy like Ronnie Burke boycotting the box could close doesn’t the entire industry or at the bare minimum cancel some race cards at a lot of tracks. They are forced to keep the light penalties in place at least for the bigger barns. One wrong suspension to a guy with a lot of horses and you’ll find yourself with five horse fields of non competitive racing like Maine and cal expo.
Burke boycotting the box -- which he would never do, as it would put him out of business far before it would the Meadowlands -- would impact the Meadowlands for about a week, maybe two. Heretics drive fear and drama. People said the same thing about David Brooks. Articles were written about the massive decline on the bloostock world and what it would do to the marketplace, and the hundreds of horses he had in training, the farms, the broodmares, stallions, etc. In the end, he and his 1000 horses had no impact on the sport whatsoever. He ended up an episode of "American Greed" and was a fart in the wind as it relates to the sport and business. Sad that he died. As soon as a criminal leaves, the horse population increases. The lag is not long. People will line up to race at any track that loses Burke. However, since you feel the business and the sport revolved around Burke, his penalties are being swept under the rug, and we are avoiding 5 horse fields, I wish you the best of luck in the casinos. Find a new business and you'll do fine.
does anyone else check the entries when they have a horse entered and curse when you see you are in against 2 burke horses
