If you are 6-1......
« on: April 03, 2024, 08:10:42 AM »
If you are 6-1 and have the 7 hole, you duck to the back the field... Can't keep up and the only horse you beat was pulled up.

You lose by 29 lengths
You pace in 1:59.1 while the competitve race went in 53.2 with the top five finishing within 3 lengths of the winner.

Should you have to requalify ??

I was looking up a horse that raced and for some reason, this particular horse caught my eye.

Figure this one won't  --- and the sport wonders why handles are so bad. With other options with less takeout, dollars find other avenues from my wallet.

of all places, the only track I play a little money on.... Monticello....

30 lengths off...and YOU CAN'T KEEP UP...that is a poor performance. If they don't do it, while it might be outside the rules, I would look for a vet inspection now, thorough one pre-race next time, and if the next race is anything like this one...vet's list!

Yeah, requalify.

there are people wagering tickets where who finishes 4th or 5th matters. A lot.

At least try to make the sport just a little bit more legitimate.

your comment is a big part of the reason why I feel there is a large decline in horse racing, and more so in harness racing....

Who is the customer --- alot of horsemen, and I felt the turn really started happening in the mid 90s.... The horsemen felt they were the customer. Their needs were to met first and foremost.

And to this day with casino's pumping the purses, that there is no need from horsemen or management to change anything. Losing customers ...... not really affecting the purses.... we have the slots as our savior -- until they don't . But I feel that everyone believes there will be a day that decoupling will start to sweep the country and then what... Too Late.

Which track?
Class if horse?
Was it a fast track or off track?

Look up the 10th at rosecroft last night Tuesday 4/2/24 race 10–jackpot high five race. The horse that finished 2nd Robmotion blue chip was 40/1 with post 5. The horse has gate speed in the past and got a 2 hole trip behind the 1/9 favorite. 1/9 horse won by open lengths and robmotion blue chip survived in the place photo. Robmotion got beat by 20+ lengths 2 weeks ago without having to qualify.
Did the off track help in the outcome?  A monsoon with a variance of 1 on the chart for the race card.
FYI, 2 winning tickets for 1200 each and  you have a carryover.

Just like people, horses have bad days. Sick, sore, tied up or just don’t feel like working today. It is part of the gamble when handicapping

And exactly why a horse in those circumstances should be listed poor performance must qualify. Not to mention beaten more than 25 lengths 'distanced" which used to be instant poor performance if not interfered with or ran.

I agree to an extent but there are some circumstances that should be considered.  Driver chokes the horse trying to wrestle him into a hole...horse backs through the field...should he be punished and have to requalify in this instance?

Heres my take.
Judges are to blame.
What should happen-the driver and trainer is called up straight after the race-and asked to explain the poor performance to the Judges.
Did he choke down? Did he pull up lame, should the Vet be called to examine the horse-eg Did it afib?? Did a shoe fall off and horse sore?

NO--none of this ever happens--and the public--ie the supporter of racing-is treated like mushrooms--kept in the dark and fed horseshit.Judges sitting on their hands.
The poor performance should be explained before the horse has its next run--preferably the explanation printed in the program like done in o'seas tracks when I visited there.if nothing is done--then it needs to qualify with the Vet watching all horses off a poor performance effort

While you are circumstancing and excusing no-try drives, what about the guy who needed the horse 4th or 5th?

Doesn't it make the sport look a bit more legit if the horse is deemed to require a Q race?

Maybe then, y ou'd have a few less circumstances, eh?
