For Schumer, it's a very long tight wire he has to navigate. He has been around forever and now could face a real primary challenge from AOC in 2028. Currently, both left and right wing media outlets have AOC with a big lead over Schumer. So if he caves on the shutdown, he'll alienate the progressive wing which he must have to beat off a challenge from AOC. But I think the issue is already done. If AOC runs, she'll win easily.
