I've not had a horse with fractured ribs and I am not clear if physiologically they would be the same level of pain as a human but a simple google search alludes to the fact that it would really hinder a horse. The term "fracture" could be pretty loose and actually mean one or more hairline fractures (still pretty impressive he paced what he did). Or his pain tolerance it incredibly high, by virtue of his own stoicism or something else.

No matter what the case I feel badly for Louprint. And I am sure they would not have knowingly raced him with that kind of injury. I am sure he can heal up well; whether that means a racing or only stud career, time will tell.

This makes a lot of sense, and I completely agree with your assessment.

How a horse would be able to perform as well as Louprint did with fractures on both sides of his ribs is nothing short of amazing.

I agree that a "hairline" fracture and/or a non-displaced fracture could account for a sub-par performance without crippling the horse.  The fact that it took two veteran veterinarians to suss it out would argue for this.

If it is a non-displaced/hairline fracture it should heal in time to allow him to come back next year and put the "hot stamp" on his career, and then go off to stud at a much higher level.  Difficult decision as it could be the difference between his being worth $7mm and $25mm.

Won’t see the track again, will be syndicated soon I would estimate share price will be $70,000 to $75,000 on a 120 share basis

Or ….. is from page 14, line 7 of the book of excuses.  Not a good last race  for a horse going to stud.

So you're projecting his stud fee at what?

Someone wasn’t paying close attention to detail, e.g., grooming, trainer.

Just like in a human being, if a person or in this case an animal doesn't show any outwards signs of being injured it's hard to know something is wrong until they're tested.

I would agree.  I don't think they'd risk his stud future or want that clunker on his record if they knew he was injured.

I’d say $15k of 17,500 to match Downbytheseaside

He showed no signs jogging or training hard? This smells in my opinion.
Broken ribs in a human are super painful. I don't see how this would not of showed up.

Where you a horse in a past life?  Can the horse talk?
