Read Larry Charles’ autobiography. Did not have as smooth or as long-lasting a relationship with LD as I had assumed. To me, the show really picked up when JB Smoove arrived. And, for all the riffing the two of the them hilariously do, I think LD  has a small part of him that wishes he were black ( or at least had a Johnson as big as Leon’s}
