13 Standardbred horses saved by the Highway Patrol in New York

Semi truck pulled over in upstate N.Y. transporting 25 horses to Canada for Slaughter! 13 of them were STANDARDBREDS from Pennsylvania. The trailer had no windows or vents.  There has to be a better solution!!

"One of the standardbreds, Cascada, had a fairly successful racing career, pulling in more than $100,000 in purses while notching wins and top finishes at harness tracks in the Northeast and Canada. According to horse racing industry records, Cascada had been owned three years ago by Michael L. Torcello, an attorney and a member of the boards of directors with the Western New York Harness Horsemens’ Association and the United States Trotting Association.

Torcello did not respond to requests for comment. Cascada had to be euthanized last week due to a serious health problem discovered by one of the veterinarians who have been providing treatment for the seized horses, which included many draft horses."

Torcello let his long time trainer Sam Smith go over two weeks ago and now this , guy is having a dose of Karma maybe The story was Sam got a positive test and El Dorado  wanted him gone ,but I see Sammy is racing still

What do you suggest be done with these horses?

If there was any demand to re-home, they would be re-homed. That is how markets work.

The new law doesn't address the problem of what to do with unwanted horses. It only says what you CANNOT do.
