Brandon Blvd as a stallion....yes.. .sure
(150) Mares @ $5000 or $7000
70% get in foal approx so say 105 x 5k/7k
so that is $500K Annually a year out ..
Deduct that from the $11,000,000 ....
The interest on $11,000,000 is almost $500K
Soon they will have 50-100 horses in the stable...
costing $30-100k Monthly..
When u have $500 mil it really doesnt matter
Race for the glory and buy $500,$600 $800 K yearlings
soon the bottom line on inventory will be $20 Million
then $30 Million..
Virtually impossible to recoup these types of numbers
in this Industry...
and they have done well in my opinion..
Very tough game to show a profit for the owner
It is more entertainment for the rich and always has been.
The public has left the building years ago...
The aging demographic speaks volumes..
The young crowd has little interest in any racing beyond
the Kentucky Derby and Belmont....
Most have never heard of the Little Brown Jug or
The Metro Pace..
The yearling market is exciting but a relatively
small group of say 100-125 "Buyers" buy 80%
of the Yearlings...with their stakes payments keeping
the races going.
The sport is characterized by dwindling crowds,
and the honest trainers being forced out by the cheaters
that have become so prevalent in the sport..
Not sure where we are headed...but there could be
trouble on the horizon when decoupling is passed.
Do you have any idea how many 200K plus horses they have eaten?? I know of five totally millions and no doubt there are about 20 more that never made a dollar. They will lose ten of millions over the next decade regardless if they trip over a stallion. They obviously have it to blow so good for them. And Andrew and his team. You think myron bell hasn't cost a bunch of wealthy guys tens of millions? How about Anthony---he's lost about 500K just in the past year buying five off Burke. The only people that make any money are the shrewd trainers who seek value at the yearling sales, develop those horses and then sell at the absolute best time to the bigger groups or Pollacks of the world.
